FOOTBALL Cantonvs football team this year, except for a few new members, was made up of players who had seen action the year before. The team, led by co-captains Lesieur and Nascimbeni, started out the season by overwhelming the Torrington second team 36 - O. The next game Canton played host to a fast aggressive Berlin team and suffered a 32 - 6 set- back. The next week Canton traveled to Hartford to play the American School for the Deaf and was defeated by a score of 20 - O. Canton went to Winsted the next week to play Gilbert, but after putting up a stubborn fight were again de- feated by a score of 19 - 7. Canton had their second win when they defeated Woodrow Wilsonvs second team by a score of 21 - 6. The last game of the season was with Simsbury. Although the team fought hard, all the breaks were against them and they lost by a score of 13 - 6. BASKETBALL Canton Highvs basketball team led by David Goyer went through a tough season. Almost all of the teams they played outclassed them, because of their superior height. Canton has won 5 out of 18 games. We put up a lot of fight, which held several games to a very close decision. The 1948 cheering squad of Canton High School, composed of six senior girls, has proved to be something new and differento This group has used tumbling pyramid formations with their cheers, which have worked out excep- tionally wello All their cheers were original with this yearvs seasont, In November, they chose six girls from each under class to train as fu- ture cheerleaderso This is an advantage which these cheerleaders hadn't ex- perienced. The design of their uniform was original.
