Within these pages come alive the congenial and informal atmosphere attributed to the life at Canton High School. Success, happi¬ ness, and melancholy are exemplified through such events as beating Waynes- ville, attending pep rallies, having fresh¬ man day, and graduating. In the future when your high school years seem dim, we hope that this annual will rekindle the memories of C. H. S. 1962- 63. 7 ie jifacJz 73ear S a fj 4 Con en s ADMINISTRATION CLASSES ACTIVITIES FEATURES ADVERTISEMENTS 5 57 GJfS. cue re me ml) er mucn . The underclassmen members of the staff-Martha Walker, Carolyn Mash- burn, Becky White, Robert Sutten- field, Rose Trantham, and Hannah Williams-look over a list of sub¬ scriptions. There were students, and pupils, and scholars everywhere! In the balcony, in the auditorium, in the stadium, in the restrooms — Everywhere!—The balmy autumn days and the star-spangled nights were too lovely to bear and Sandy teased her hair—The water cascaded from third to second to first and puddled up in Miss Gillis ' s room, but we did get beautiful and modern science labs — The two great nuclear powers were eyeball to eyeball and Kruschev blinked— Carroll the Barrel” and all his little kegs had a concession stand- William, Guy, and Coach Allen played a tremendous part in North Carolina ' s winning the Shrine Bowl as did the twelve mem¬ bers of Waynesville ' s Band that donned Red and Black uni¬ forms— Two Miss Hi Misses—Aileen and Annie! Andwe didn ' t lack for variety in geometry professors—what a moist Christmas parade! Canton rated two new bridges and the seniors grappled with the college entrance exams—Lady Macbeth walked at mid¬ night and tried to wash the blood from her hands—Mr. Stamey ' s history classes voted to ban nuclear testing—One day Mr. Hut¬ chins reminisced in chapel as Joe presided as the president of the student body—The Christmas dance was a Fantasy in Frost. Exams came to soon--some passed, some tumbled. Valentine ' s Day and Groundhog Day and the Ides of March came and passed— The elder classmen pilgrimaged to Washington and New York and espied many oddities; meanwhile, back at the ranch, the juniors struggled with the preparations of the prom—The class play erupted giggles and was dubbed the best ever—Graduation Day dawned and parting was joyful and saddish—This year ' s history.
