She has meant much to us, but now we must leave her as do all who meet her. We first saw her on an eventful day in September five years ago. As we walked into her presence, we found ourselves sink¬ ing into the depts of confusion. She seemed so great and distinguished and we so small and obscure. Yet, she steered us onward with an understanding hand. Thus, a beau¬ tiful friendship began. Our first year with her was full of sur¬ prises. Not only did she give us new ideas, but she also introduced us to many new friends. We had much fun together as we became familiar with clubwork and sports. We advanced in wisdom and stature, and the year passed quickly. Under the leadership of Carolyn McEI- rath and Miss Johnson, the next year was another milepost along the road to final success. It was during this uproarious year that we frequently expressed the desire to see this year of activity through which we have just passed. Little did we realize how sad the joys of success can be. Now we know! By the time we were Sophomores, we were beginning to fit well into the pattern of school life. Football was the most out¬ standing of our activities. Ours was an undefeated season, one long to be re¬ membered by the student body, team, and Coach Poindexter. With the dawning of a new school year, we emerged as Juniors. La Rue Amos and Mrs. Matthews guided us through a happy and eventful year. This was the year that Mr. Troutman ' s band doubled its enroll¬ ment and activities. Will any of us soon forget the concerts, especially those at Murphy and Andrews? The Patio Prom climaxed the year ' s events. Days of hard work achieved a true Spanish setting—from the decorations and dancing to the bull fight. Never will the memory of that night be taken from us! The long anticipated day arrived when we became Seniors. Our president. Bill Hawkins, and our sponsor. Miss Gillis, led us in our varied activities, the outstanding of which were our delightful trip to Wash¬ ington, our district meeting of the student council, our side-splitting senior play, our colorful Prom, our Baccalaureate sermon. Then graduation! Yes, Diary, she is our Alma Mater. With her we have spent many happy hours; through her we have gained wisdom. Now we must relinquish her to someone else. Through the years she will remain a defi¬ nite part of us because we were at one time a member of you. Canton High School. THE DRAMHIC!; CLUB Sprouting a long beard, becoming old and wrinkled, hair turning snow white—these are just a few of the tricks of the Dramatics Club. The various phases of dramatics—scenery construction, lighting, costuming, make-up, and acting—are studied. Through play reading, through production, through attending the productions of other dramatics groups, an appreciation for the best in drama is achieved. Cooperation and the accepting of responsibility are important results of their work.
