Cosmos refers to everything in creation, from the smallest atoms to the most distant celestial bodies. The Cosmos is all that is, or ever was or ever will be. We ourselves are made of starstuff. We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself. The Earth is embedded in fifteen billion years of cosmic time. It is fifteen billion light years to the Cosmic Horizon. Our planet is a mere speck of matter circling one small star in the backwaters of a typical galaxy of four hundred billion suns. The immensities of space and time encompass enormous emptiness, spectacular beauty, and perhaps, many other intel- ligent beings who wonder as we do. The 198V82 yearbook staff dedicates this volume of the CHS yearbook, Backtrackin', to the Cosmos, which we have just begun to understand. We invite you to come with us on journey to a new dimension, a distant time, a Mr-away plap n the years 1981 and 1982, and reach for the Itars!
