Rhoda Christensen teaches seventh grade English and social studies. Teaching seventh and eighth grade social studies is Aries VanHunnik. Delores Molstad teaches seventh grade social studies and eighth grade language arts. D. v E. Wayne Hermsen teaches seventh and eighth grade math. Mr. Coplan is also varsity football coach and athletic director of CHS. B. Teaching chemistry, IPS, and physics is David Crabtree. Mr. Crabtree is the coach for varsity wrestling and is assistant varsity football coach. C. Throughout the year Renee Rebnord teaches drams, novel, advanced composition, mass media, creative writing, psychology, and English I. Ms. Rebnord coaches declam and is an assistant varsity girls track coach. D. Bob Herting teaches biology and IPS. Mr. Herting is coach for girls varsity basketball, boys f freshman basketball, and is an assistant coach for boys high school track. E. Sherry Davis teaches Practical English, and senior and junior high physical education. Mrs. Davis is coach for senior and junior high girls track and junior high girls basketball and volleyball. D F. Teaching general business and junior and senior high physical education is Terry Bong. Mr. Bong is coach for boys high school track and cross- country. A. Elwood Dietrich coaches boys varsity basket- ball, and is assistant varsity football coach. He also teaches general business and fundamental math. B. Teaching Agriculture I, II, IV, and Ag Business is Erwin Anderson. Mr. Anderson is also advisor for the Future Farmers of America. C. Debra Debates teaches marriage, advanced foods, and Home Economics I and II. She is also the Future Homemakers of America advisor. D. Accounting, high school and junior high typing is taught by Pat Panagos. E. F. Mr. Dick VanHolland is the teacher of high school typing, short hand, economics, office education (a two-credit course), and is the journalism advisor. Robert Tupper teaches four classes of Indus- trial Arts I, and three classes of In- dustrial Arts II. Don't walk behind me I won't lead Don't walk ahead of me I won't follow Just walk beside me and be my friend. A. Clarice Irons is the prompt and accurate librarian at the CHS library. B. Greg Noel is kept busy teaching Art I, II, and III, as well as junior high art. C. Patsy Holsworth assists Mr. Siverson with junior and senior high bands. D. Glenn Siverson is kept busy directing the junior and senior high bands. E. Colin Conner takes a rest from his busy schedule which includes junior and senior high choir, swing choir, and Music Theory I and II. A. B. C. D. Nordell Ekle is kept busy teaching three classes of Algebra I and two classes of geometry. Coach for the girls basketball B-team is Joe Haugen. He also teaches English II and advanced composition. Gary Schultz teaches English I, American literature, and short story. He is also director of the Senior and All-High plays. Coach for freshman football and B-teara boys basketball is Jim Jibben. He also teaches U.S. History. E. Annual advisor, Tom Reaves, teaches government and world geography. He is also coach for girls varsity volleyball and freslunan football. A. Co-captains for the fresh- man football team were quarterback, Todd Pottratz and running back, Todd Larson. B. Head coach for the freshman football team is Mr. Jim Jibben. C. Todd Larson, led by Craig Folk, rushes for yardage against the Brandon Valley Lynx. D. Assistant coach, Tom Reaves, is shown studying the oppo- nents' defense. Freshman football ends on a positive note this year. A. Shown here is sophomore, Mike Johnson, carrying the football for Canton. B. Bill Slade and Mike Johnson are celebrating another victory. C. Two members of the C-Hawk football squad successfully earned honors for the work they put In during the season. Junior, Jim Hailing, was selected to the All-State Football Team as a punter, and also won the Terry Hammond Memorial Award for the most yards rushing. Pete Van Veldhuizen, senior, was chosen by his teammates as the Most Valuable Player for the 1977-78 season, and was also chosen by the South Dakota Sports Writers and Broadcasters Association as an All-State Offensive Guard. Once again the C-Hawks managed to maintain a share of the Big 8 Confer- ence title. The football players selected to the All-Conference team were seniors. Art Den Hoed, Terry Glenn, Steve Sandnes, and Pete VanVeldhuizen. Honorable mention went to Dominic Jones, Mark Messerli, and Danny Richter. You only go around once in life so give it all you've got. Homecoming Highlight: Canton vs. West Central A. The Queen and other members of the Royalty are shown giving the game ball to the captains. B. Terry Glenn is shown adding more yardage for the C-Hawks. C. David Hitzemann coming through the C-Hawk hoop. D. The band is shown performing at half time of the Homecoming game. E. Majorette, Wendy Larson, leads the drill team in the Augustana homecoming parade. k® A Having a good time along with hard work and practice made for a good year for the drill team. They provided excellent entertain- ment during halftime of football and basketball games. Using their props such as the chairs, shown above, the girls danced their way into everyone's hearts. A.
