M DIVISION Probably the most recognizable rates of the Engineering Department is that of the Machinist Mates. ln their work space which they lovingly call the Hole, these men are the key to the shipls ability to sail from one place to another, for they supply the power that turns the ship's propeller. With the steam generously donated by the Boiler Division, these Machinist Mates and Firemen of the Machinery Division manufacture electrical power from- the steam. This power is also used to provide electricity throughout the entire ship. As with other divisions in Engineering, M Division has long, hot and sweaty watches that must be stood to ensure that the turbines operate in the manner in which they were designed to. Much of the division's in port time is spent keeping the space and all its systems looking and working like new. It's a lot of work, but the men of the CANOPUS Machinery Division can be very proud of the job they do. Front: MMC Kenneth Broskoskie. Back: MMFN Dennis Hall, FN David Webb. V l '
