POLA RIS RE GA TTA Polaris regatta 1975 in full sail The Fifteenth Annual Polaris Regatta was held on 20 and 21 September 1975 under the joint sponsorship of Submarine Squadron Fourteen USS LOS ALAMOS and the Holy Loch Sailing Club A total of 111 entrants In five ship classes participated In the events As in the past strong winds made for an enjoyable weekend for those in the larger ship classes while many of those entered in the dinghy classes were forced to spend the weekend ashore EN1 John Reynolds and Sperry Tech Rep Jack Franz were the Site One members entered in the competition A buffet lunch prepared by CANOPUS food service personnel was served on Sunday Members of the catered the affair Mrs Bev Owen wife of USS LOS ALAMOS Skipper CDR W Owen presented trophies to the winners of all classes I Site One Sailing Club and the Officer Wives Club

.-. -.-- -..-.,-.F .Aw-nm--.--an ,.......L.LM.1-.Lf :fr..,'., SITE ONE BIRTHDAY BALL The 1975 Site One Birthday Ball was held in Queen's Hall, Dunoon on 24 and 25 April. The event celebrated the fourteenth year of Polaris Sub- marine Operation in the Holy Loch, the 200th Anniversary of the U. S. Navy and the 75th year of the Submarine Force. Speakers included Commodore James Lewis and Dunoon Provost John Thomson. Captain Alexich acted as Master of Ceremonies. ' Commodore Lewis opened the festivities with the traditional British Toast to the Queen. In his remarks, the Commodore reflected on the many har- monious years of mutual cooperation in the Holy Loch and also expressed his gratitude to the officers and men of Site One. In his speech, Provost Thomson remarked on the new era of Scottish Local Government and noted that he will be the last Provost of Dunoon. He also made mention of the mutual admiration and excellent working relations ex- isting between the Scottish Community and the U. S. Navy. The highlight of the Ball was the superb performance given by the CINC- SOUTH U. S. Navy Band, homeported in Naples, Italy. After good food, wonderful entertainment and good company the evening closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne , the traditional Scottish end to a festive event. fy , 1 5 S i , , 4 , , 1 mi.
