THE CO AL GAMES The Cowal Games started in 1894, with pipe band com- petition beginning in 1906, and special events laid on in following years for the crews and naval vessels lying offshore. The games were cancelled for two World Wars but attendance was over 30,000 by 1950. For 21 years the Cowal Highland Gathering has been run as an amateur meeting and has gained such importance that for many people it is the event of the year, either as spectators or competitors. The most moving sight is the gathering of the pipers and drummers, over 1000 of them, which marks the end of yet another Cowal Highland Gathering. M 4. 'N . 1 X 'NQNN QQ f .
