The social studies program tries to give a firm education in the practices of good citizen- ship and cooperation among the nations of the World. A nation can lead only When its citizens are educated, well-informed, tolerant, courteous, understanding, and cooperative. Qur nation is in a position for leadership today and needs good citizens. The program is a thorough one aimed to help each student take his place in society as a citizen Well-informed about peoples, their Way of life, and their difficulties and problems. The program, extending over four years, includes Pennsylvania, lvorld, and American historyg civicsg economic geographyg and problems of democracy. Social studies classes interest students. They consider such subjects as geographic factors, the family, the school, the church, public opinion, public Welfare, crime, production, consumption, labor, finance, government, reform, War and peace, conservation, health and recreation. Dis- cussions, debates, panels, quizzes, field trips, and visual aids make classes interesting. Students learn to think accurately, to reason sensibly, to recognize propaganda, and to practice principles of group cooperation.
