Some classes have several features. The class of 1943 is one of the latter type. To begin With, it is the most beautiful class to graduate in many years as anyone can prove by comparing the number of girls 31111 boys. If we carry this comparison to past. years, it will show that this class is the most unevenly divided class since 1923. Again, it is the only class in the history of Canonsburg High School which has had members drafted directly into Military Service. The latter fact makes the 19-13 class a strictly war-time class. As a War- time class, it has shown considerable fighting spirit in getting out this edition of Canon Log. No other class has overcome the handicaps and obstacles which confronted this class in putting out a yearbook. With Mr. DiYenno's induction into the Armed Service the Canon Log was left without a sponsor, and the prospects of a year- book looked dim. However, vigorous leadership and determination backed up with cash from every member of the class convinced the author- ities that the class meant business and a spon- sor was forthcoming. Then, when Canon Log prospects seemed rosy, the bottom dropped out of everything with the announcement from the en- 4 graving company that all yearbook contracts were cancelled. What happened then borders on the mysterious and occult. Out, of it all, however, emerged the Class of 1943 proudly bearing this edition of the Canon Log of which no one need be ashamed. Therefore, this class bears the distinc- tion of producing one of the very few annuals brought out this year and probably the last one for many years. Congratulations, Class of 1943! You have done a good job, but you are going to need lots more of this fighting spirit in the days ahead. As Winston Churchill has said, the future un- doubtedly holds for you, as for every one, Blood, Sweat. and Tears , and this translated into less- tigurative language means sacrifice and service. I have no doubt that you will measure up to your responsibilities they present themselves, and I know that in carrying out these responsibilities you are going to find real satisfaction. Ill extending my final Wishes for your sue- cess I should like to add a word of personal ap- preciation for the cheerful, friendly spirit I have found in all my contacts with the Class of 1943. lt is a pleasant thing to remember you by, and I hope that you make it your permanent possession.
