Under the supervision of advisors, Miss Scarsellato and Mr. Warne, the staff devoted much time and energy to their respective assignments. Bonnie Trylko and Bob Pritts, editors, assumed respon- sibility of work carried on by the staff. Editors tried to make certain that all work was of the best quality and completed on time. Jim Livingston and Terry Teodori, business managers, had charge of collecting subscriptions, ordering books, and keeping records of all financial transactions. Both editorial and business stafts contributed the ability and leadership necessary to achieve superior results. The theme chosen by the first Elmanac staff was THE HONOR WAS OURS. Each staff member realized that among honors was the privilege of having a part in composing the cherished record of his high school years at Canon-McMillan. Although the first football team of Canon-McMillan Senior High School encountered difficulty in defeating its opponents during the 1959 season, two players were selected for the Western Class AA All-Conference Team. Pre-school training in August, found the Big-Mac football coaches faced with a problem of getting the team acquainted, organized, and perfected. Through the diligent work of head coach, Al Como and his assistants, Val Rizzo, Anthony Paesano, and Ralph Jelicp the team progressed to new heights in team work, cooperation, and obedience. Linemen Macik, Olenn, Ortosky, Arrigoni, Lesefka, Verona, Gregory, and Kohler hit hard with a swift offensive and defensive attack. Fast running and quick thinking backfield men consisted of: Verchek, Rossero, Foley, Ross, Reese, Teo- dori, O'Korn, and McVerry. Western Class AA All-Conference Team selected end, Steve Macik to the first team and back, Larry Ver- chek to the second team. This 22 man team consisted of outstanding players in Western Conference. The schools of Mt. Lebanon, Washington, Trinity, Munhall, Uniontown, Baldwin, and Canon-McMillan made up the Western Conference. Even though the Big-Macs encountered repetitive defeats, perseverance and a fighting spirit prevailed among the players. CAGERS FACED PERPLEXING PROGRAM Canon-McMillan Senior High School's basketball team looked forward to the future. During the 1959-60 season most of the basketball fans were viewing a new style of play, more team spirit, and more enthusiastic coach- ing whenever the Big Mac varsity team played their games. Although the team did not win a great many games, as their six and sixteen record showed, the stressing of fundamentals of basketball, improvements in skill of the players, were very noticeable. Larry Bender received recognition for his tremendous performance on the court tioor. Senior captain of the cagers, Bender was the leading scorer in Section IV. The coaches in the district selected Bender as the Most Valuable Player. At the All Sports Club Banquet honor- ing varsity and reserve teams, Bender received a trophy for outstanding work on the basketball floor. Letter winners this year included senior, Larry Brown, sophomores, Ken Thornton, Neil Veydt, Bob Lamb, Ty- rone Anderson, and Ronald Rodinsky. Thornton and Veydt gave fine performances this year and may be the best backcourt combination next year in league play. Coach Kuzma, formerly a player at Duquesne Uni- versity and selected Small College Coach of Year 1958, keeps a watchful eye on the development of 6'3 Tyrone Anderson, and 6'1 Bob Lamb, who will have most of the heavy rebound work again. Two high scorers from this year's reserve team, Steve Duchi and John Przenkop will fight for starting positions. The student body of Canon-McMillan Senior High School awaits the 1960-61 basketball season anxiously. Bender shoots a rebound. V ' L 4.15 .-.-,-- - Again Bender attempts a foul shot.
