I ff I 4 1 wfff 1959 NONAC REGIT ff?- Pusususn sv CANON cn'v 1-msn scnool. IN M EMORIA M Early this year Mrs. Elaine Hagaman was stricken with a sudden illnes and passed away. To say that she is sorely missed would be a gross understatement, for, as spon- sor of the Senior Class, Annual Staff, Tigerettesh and Cheerleaders, she was the most active -- and most beloved -- member of the high school faculty. The worth of a person is not determined by his wealth or personal success, but rather by his contributions to the common good of humanity. A mi1lionaire's tomb will eventually crumble into dust and an ernperor's name may soon be forgotten if he has led an empty existence. The person who contributes to the lives of those around him leaves a lasting legacy to those left behind and to posterity. It is to the person who has most shaped many of our high school careers that we, the seniors of 1959, dedicate this annual. NONAC REGIT STAFF EDITOR........ ASSISTANT EDITOR . . BUSINESS MANAGERS . Phyllis Shoop The goal of band is to teach the student to appreciate music as well as play it. This kind of education helps a student prepare for a more useful, enjoyable life. By learning to work as a member of a compact unit a student becomes more capable of accepting his share of responsibility in everything he does. Band is valuable too, because it gives the student a chance for companionship and new ex- periences that could be obtained in no other way. Truly, a student whose education includes instrumental music becomes a-well-balanced happy person. Instrumental music is a builder of character, cooperation, and good-will for all. After compiling a 2-2-1 non-conference record, the Bengals came through with four wins and one loss in Southern Color- ado League Play, to post a 6-3-1 regular season record. The team, despite its one hundred sixty-seven pound average weight and tremendous ability, had its ups and downs. The Tigers never won more than two in a row, but when the chips were down, Coach De Shazo's footballers could be depended upon to play their best. The highlight of the season came after the regular season's end when the Tigers defeated Montrose, a previously undefeated team, and thus gained the State Class AA finals. In the finals a strong La Junta team again defeated C.C.H.S. Although they fell short of their goal of State Champs by a slim margin, the Tigers of 1958 accomplished much, and will be remembered for having one of the greatest teams in the history of Canon High. Bouncing back from a grueling pre-conference ordeal Q0-71, the Tigers posted four straight Southern Colorado League victories to establish them as contenders for the pennant. At the time the Nonac Regit went to press, Coach John Griffin's basketballers had compiled a 5-10 overall record and were holding down the second spot in the league with a 4-3 league record. Andy Anderson, senior forward, was pacing the league 's scorers with his 17 point per game average. The spirit and ability shown by the team up to evidence that the Tigers will be strong contenders for District Tournament and later, honors. Dec Dec Dec Dec. Dec. Jan. Jan. Jan. Jan. Jan.
