ELAINE HAGAMAN In appreciation of her untiring service to the Seniors of Canon City High, this volume of the Nonac Regit is gratefully dedicated to Mrs, Elaine Hagaman, whose patience, perseverance, and sound counsel, have enshrined her in the hearts of all. TO THE CLASS OF 1958: My very best wishes go to each mem- ber of this fine graduating class. Time has a way of highlighting the happy times we have encountered, and of erasing the mis- takes we have made. So may it be with your memories of CCHS, Oat of these high school experiences, may you have learned that education doesn't stop when you get through school, that hard work brings satisfying results, that enthusiasm is an important ingredient in life, and that there is no substitute for honesty and integ- rity. 0?Zw.cf?f-,Jeff In CEOICAIIGH .XFX ADO AOml!1lSIIl2A1IIOn Eiligmfii UW -bl? A slight let down against a good Lamar team nearly spelled disaster for Tiger championship hopes. By taking Pueblo County while Lamar lost to them, the Tigers were back in the picture. The final game to decide the champion and state representative was played at La Junta, The Tigers would not be denied and came thru in a good close game. The trip to Cortez in the semi -final state playoff game was the highlight of our season. This was the third game in seven days and the Tigers went down after a good fight. The Tiger players were outstanding and were a great team. They gave their best and brought us our first football trophy in many years, The following were honored by being selected for all conference: First offensive teamg Gordon Mack, Quarterback, Phil Coulter, Endg Doug Ready, Halfbackg and Ron Kunkle, Guard. First defensive team: Larry Lane, Guard: Quentin Elliott, Defensive Line-Backer, Honorable mention, Frank Clark, Tackle: Herman Zueck, Centerg and Boyd Hawver, Line-Backer, Congratulations, Tigers! 5. 8 -, Ly, V , , , ,, il ry 4 V. ,V in F . 2 1 v' ' f,, . , M f, coaching staff B-Squad Coach Ludlow, Line Coach McPherson, Backiield Coach Carrillo, B-Squad Coach Brad- bury, Head Coach DeShazo, End Coach Ziegler. is V? The Tigers suffering from early season jitters lost their opener to Freed by a one point deficit. The squad came back with two consecutive wins over Salida and Florence before bowing to a strong Pueblo Centennial squad, The B's ended their season with an impressive victory over the Pueblo County Hornets. ARSII hoopstens Hoop fortunes of the Tigers took them to the runner-up spot in the Southern Colorado League for the 1957-58 campaign and, for the second consecutive year, Phil Coulter, big Ben- gal postman, headed the circuit in scoring, He amassed a total of 135 points during confer- ence play with a game average of 15. 1. Coulter hit a total of 236 for the year, getting an almost equal number of rebounds for an outstanding season. The Bengal conference record was 8-2 and their season tally was 11-7. Coach John Griffin classed this squad as one of the finest groups of young men Ihave ever coached. Also figuring among the top conference scorers were Dave Smith and Dan Colvin, and team-wise, Frank Clark was runnerup to Coulter on those important rebounds, Hustle and leadership were provided by Doug Ready and Dan Colvin. Probably the most improved player, Gordon Mack, added fire to the later conference games. 1957 -58 SCHEDULE TIGERS OPPONENTS TIGERS OPPONENTS December 7 Centennial January Lamar December 13 Arvada January Rocky Ford December 14 Littleton January Colorado Springs December 21 Centennial January Las Animas December 28 Central February Central January 3 Lamar February La Junta January 10 La Junta February Pueblo Co. C-SCIUAO For the first time in the history of Canon City High School an all freshman basketball team was originated, This team was called the C Squad and played a fourteen game schedule. The team was formed so that it would give the boys who are not ready for B Squad or Varsity a chance to gain the much needed fundamentals, experience, and poise necessary for a cham- pionship basketball team. B-SCIUAO necono The B Basketball squad for 1957-58 was made up of sophomores except for two juniors and three freshmen. The overall season record was ll wins 9 losses. However in pressure-packed conference play, they had a good 7-3 record, averaging 42 points per game to the opponents 39 points. Most of our scoring was done by Herminghouse, Stroud, Wilks and Yarberry. Oir strongest rebounders were Fink, Green, Wagner and Yarberry. Our boys played very well in games where the final score had a spread of 4 points, which was over half of our games. Hustle as usual, led to our most successful B season of the last several years. CURTIS AND MEADE 15th and Main Phone 62 Phil1ip's 66 Station CONCERTS BANG MUSIC PHILOSOPHY Education through music prepares the student for a more useful and enjoyable life. It develops his personality and his ability to cooperate with others, as well as his skills and his physical well-being. Music plays a very important part in this complete education of the student. The ability to enjoy and produce music results in the following objectives: Makes life more enjoyable, builds character, makes good citizens, teaches values that are the foundation of Ameri- can life, improves the mind, develops companionship and good will, teaches democracy. GOAL OF BAND IN SCHOOL The student whose education includes instrumental music becomes a well-balanced and happy adult. The band is a good will ambassador, it is a rep- resentative, and an asset to the school and community. The number of times it has performed is an indica- tion of its popularity and usefulness. It is one of the Tigers best rooters, always ready with the school song to give our Tigers the assurance that we are behind them one hundred per cent. It is an organiza- tion to be proud of because it gives its members memories and experiences not to be obtained in any other way and never to be forgotten. lt is a teacher of character, cooperation, and good-will for all.
