jeff Tanner Student Body President W'63 Farewell Speech In preparing this farewell speech, I was at a loss as to where to begin. Where can I find the words to express the gratitude I feel for the time spent and the effort expended during these past three years? The first thing I did, as I am sure most presidents do, was turn to the front pages of the past Utopians and read the addresses of the pre- vious presidents. In reading them, one comes to realize that most of them mean the same thing. The words may be put in a different order, but the idea or message is the same. They seem to say, how little I have done for a schoolthat has given me so much, not only education, but also counsel and advice that will help me each day of my life to be- come a noble citizen, and worthy of my American heritage. For many of us here this will be the last time we will be able to ex- press our appreciation not only to the teachers and administrators, but also to our friends who have come to play such an important part in our lives. When you associate with friends for three and four years, you can't help but pick up some of their qualities and they some of yours, and now we will each go our separate ways. For many this will be the final good-by-good-by to friends who have helped each one of us to become young adults and have prepared us to meet the chal- lenges of the future. How could I express my thanks to you, in these few sentences, for giving me such a happy and memorable three years? I believe the only way we as a class could ever attempt to do this, is by telling you to take advantage of those opportunities that will come your way. Our high school opportunity is behind us, but we still have a chance to further that education that will be so important in our life ahead. Be proud that you are a Hunter, and remember to display that Hun- ter Spirit always, for this is something that has taken many years to build. Each of us now, who is graduating, wishes that he had been prouder and fought harder in all that he did. My last request to you who will remain, is that you recall often the- words of our school song. Don't just sing them, but think of the mean- ing of the words, for they truly express the feelings we have at this time prior to our graduation. Hail to our school so fair, We all our troubles share, Always we'll work with our might, For the things we know to be riglgf, And through the years, As we meet once more, With loyal hearts as of yore, With our voices, We'll sing the praises, Of Canoga High 16

Members of the House of Representatives present them- selves to Mr. Robert Leventhal, sponsor of House, each Tuesday in the auditorium, ready to represent their friends and classmates in student government. Why do these fine Hunters attend House meetings so conscientiously? For two simple reasons: QU to take an active part in student gov- ernment and QZJ to get out of class. House members are elected in English, U.S. History, Government, and Senior Problems classes at the beginning of each semester. One reward for the hours they spend in this extra curricular activity is a point towards Gold C credit. Carol Jones, affairs vice-president, presided over the House and Brice Potthoff was voted Outstanding House Member. The Student Body Cabinet administers the student activities and the by-laws in such a way as to contribute to the Well being of the school. They promote school spirit, providing leadership and unity throughout the student body. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Leventhal, Cabinet meets daily in room 206 during fifth period.

Goodby The time has come for me, along with the Thorians, to bid you a sincere farewell. For us Thorians, the close of our high school career means the birth of a new life, a life of many responsibilities, heartaches, and rewards. Many of us will look back on our high school days at Canoga as the best days of our lives. We will recall those days with prideg for we shall remember the great moments we enjoyed at Canoga- moments such as our graduation, all night party, senior prom, Boys, and Girls' League dances, sports nights, football games, track meets, and the practical jokes we played on our fellow students. We shall remember each of these events. However, the memory which we shall recall most vividly will be the tremendous Hunter Spirit we dis- played. All of these factors contributed in making Canoga Park High School the best in existence. Yes, we will have many fond memories of all the events and experiences we enjoyed. Those of you who remain at Canoga are fortunate. You will be able to experience all of these activities once more. Please do not take them for granted. Never let your days at Canoga be filled with monotony and indifference. Be industrious. Participate in many activities. Help make Canoga strong and mighty as the Thorians and past classes have done. Continue with the renowned Hunter Spirit. It is up to you to maintain the outstanding reputation of Canoga Park High School. In this, my final goodby, I would like to express my deepest thanks to you, the Hunters, for the over-whelming support and cooperation I have received from you this past year. I would also like to thank you for making my three years at Canoga, years of extreme pleasure and satisfaction. Serving as Student Body President has been a wonderful and unforgettable experience for me. In closing, I would like to leave you with this final advice. Canoga is what you, the Hunters, make it. Hunters, unite with each other and be strong. In this way Canoga will continue to be the best high school 1n existence.
