LA IST RY Wlizit a beautiful day for strolling along the Beach of Life! Although we have done this so many times before, we still have a tendency to glance out upon the vast Ocean of Memories. But theres something different about it today. As we look more closely we notice the difference -there are four of the many waves of memories distinctly larger than all the others, and each of these larger in succession. Upon further exami nation we discover that these particular waves are filled with the memories of our four joy filled high school years. lhe smaller of the four waves, representing our freshman year, rolls rather timidly toward the shore, for this was the way in which we entered Cannon High School to heeome ac- quainted with the customs of the school where we would spend three and one-half delightful vcars. As the wave draws nearer, we remember the ones we chose to lead us that yea1'. Bill Bennett led us as president, Linny Baker, vieef president, Marthelaine VVilliams, secretary, llilf da Maulden. treasurer. To represent our class in Council, we chose .lane Shelton and Benny llargett. These officers and our class adviser, Miss Lois Smith, led us through a verv successful freshman year. i Another newcomer our freshman year was our principal, hir. F. O. Drummond. But hc, as we did, soon hecame well acquainted with Cane non fligh. The main actiyitv our first vear was the liresh- man Class Party, which was in the form of a square dance held in the school gymnasium. It was the height of conversation for ever-so-long afterwards. As the first small wave hreaks and splashes around our feet, we look out towards the second wave, which comes toward us more bravely than did the first, for this was the year in which we shed our titles of Greenies', and hecame known as Sophisticated Sophomoresf' Ar a class meeting our second year, we chose as our officers: Linny Baker, president, vieef president, Buck Cooke, secretary, Carolyn Bost: and treasurer, Kenneth Argo. janice Earle Denf nis and Kenneth Argo represented our class in Council, and Linnv Baker was chosen from our class as Student Government Treasurer. VVe were very proud to have an officer in the Student Government, for as freshmen we had not heen eligible. Uur sophomore adviser, Miss Elizaheth Graf ham, aided us in planning our class party, which was held at lXiirror's Lake. Swimming, playing golf, and especially eating were enjoyed hy everyone. Four of our classmates, Linnv Baker, -lean Kay Davvault, Charles Efird, and ,Ianiee Earle Denf nis, were tapped into the National llonor Society that vear. We were indeed proud of them, for very few sophomores get into that organization. Then, as we stand lost in rememhranees, the third large wave rolls in and hreaks at our feet, hearing on its crest those wondrous recollections of our junior year. 'lihat vear jane Shelton and Buck Cooke repre- sented us in Council. Once again we chose Linny Baker president. ln fact, our slate of oflif cers was the same as it had heen our sonhomore year except for a few changes of office. Kenneth Argo hccame our vice-president, Carolyn Bost, our seeretarv, and Buck Cooke, our treasurer. Miss Marjorie llarrell hecame our junior adviser. ilihcn came our first class play. llow thrilled we were that it was our class who could now have the joy of four weeks of practicing. nutting on grease paint, and painting scenery. Our nlzn' was i'Bahv's Night Out, directed hv Miss Ade' line Bogers. ln Decemher of that vear, the seniors honored us with a heautiful Senior-.Iunior Prom, using the theme VVinter VVonderland. Large snow men, lamp posts, and snow laden trees carried out the scene picturesquely. CContinued on page 385 Page Eleven
