CLASS The lights dim, the curtains rise, the cameras start rolling and soon a picture takes form upon the screen. Look! it's the freshman class of '47. See how they entered the W. Cannon High School, over 300 strong, looking brave yet a little frightened from so many people. As soon as they became better acquainted with each other they called a class meeting and with the aid of their adviser, Mrs. E. G. Alexander, elected: Shorty Upright, president, Larry Fisher, vice-president: Mar- garet Cruse, secretary, and Charles Parker, treasurer. Their first representatives to student council were Lib Holloway and Johnny Deal. Another freshman who entered with the class was the new principal, Mr. R. Melton. The year was interesting if at times confusing. The scene changes and you see how they looked when they became sophomores. While as freshmen, they were not represented in Student Government with an officer: but when they were ready to become sophomores they elected Joyce McKinley as treasurer of the student body. With the aid of Miss Helen Rudisill, sophomore adviser, they held a very successful class meeting and elected: Buck Riddle, president, Lorna Castor, vice- president, Betty Hudson, secretary, and Lamont Krim- minger, treasurer. Larry Fisher and Peggy Aldridge were the sopho- more council members. Under the coaching of Mr. Lester McCarn and Mr. C. R. Cowan, the baseball team won the Southern Piedmont Conference Championship. There's a scene taken at the class party when the sophomores left school for a half day and went to Mirror Lake by trucks. Not even the cool weather kept them from having a wonderful time swimming, playing golf, and eating. Margaret Cruse was elected to reign as queen of the Harvest Dance. This was quite an honor, having a sophomore win the election. Once more the scenes change and they are one step nearer their goal, for they are now juniors. There is Miss Nadine Gragg, the junior adviser, helping with the election of officers, who were: Luther Corriher, president, Frank Rufty, vice-president: Jean Evans, secretary, and Royal Cadell, treasurer. Butch Dwiggins and Larry Fisher were the council members. Peggy Aldridge was elected as secretary of the Student Government. There is a scene taken at'the Junior-Senior dance. The theme carried out was a Mexican fiesta. H ISTCRY The junior class play, Galahad Jones, starring Royal Cadell, when presented to the public, proved a success. Again the baseball team won the Piedmont Cham- pionship. This year for the first time the third year history classes visited the capital in Washington. They saw all the historical buildings, and returned by New Market, Virginia, to see the famous Endless Caverns. Once more they had someone new, as Mr. F. O. Drummond came as the principal from Mt. Holly High School. Look! The film is now in technicolor, for they have reached the last step. They are now seniors. - Miss Loraine Gray, senior adviser, took charge of the class meeting until they elected James Efird as president. James took charge and the class elected Lib Holloway, vice'president, Jodey Shelf, secretary: and Peggy Aldridge, treasurer. Gene Keever and Jodey Shelf were elected as council members. Hulene Freeze was crowned Cannon High School's Christmas Queen. Frank Rufty was elected as the student body presi- dent and Lamont Krimminger as vice-president. The Senior-Junior was a success for everyone con- cerned. The theme used was Holiday Inn. Again the seniors ruled for a day, punishing all other classmen for their crimes against them. Then came graduation night. For twelve years, or even more, they had looked forward to getting out of school, but now when theutime had finally arrived, the looks on their faces told a different story. An expression of sorrow for having to leave a place where the four most wonderful years of their lives had been spent came over their faces.
