CLASS PROPHECY By Charles Misenheimer Heartaches, hatred, destruction, and war characterized the school year of 1943. Great powers and nations, pitting their might against each other, were fighting in a deadly struggle. Keen minds, understanding, and faith in God were the only assurances of a better world to come. That was 1 3 years ago. It seems only yesterday that our Senior class had given up its high school days forever, and had been scattered to all parts of the globe. Most of the boys joined the armed services of the United States, while the girls served as best ihey could anywhere they were needed. Yes, that was a long time ago. but tonight, with the world once more at peace and pro- gressing again under a normal civilization, that Senior class is having a big reunion at the Y. M. C. A. in Kannapolis. As we see all our old classmates come through the doors into our presence after years of separation, we can well be proud. Many notables, hard workers and people of distinction, have sprung from the class of 4 3. For instance: Ed Messer, our old class president, owns a chain of theaters that would fill 10 city blocks if placed side by side. He lists among his managers several former classmates, Ralph Towell, Albert Hartis and Milton Lowe. Listed among the famous doctors, we find Harold Hoke has quit butchering cows” and is now working on people. Sharing the spotlight with Dr. Hoke, we find Bill Abernathy, Bill Cross and Cardell Carter. Annie Ruth Brinkley stormed Hollywood with her flashing smile, and is now one of its greatest stars. Other stars are Montise Martin, Doris Moore and Betty Walters. Boys who reached the top in theatrical performances are Cardine Overcash, David Hunsucker, and Gerald Lew Lehr Lloyd. Audrey Cloninger and William Evans have opened a large art gallery together and both are regarded as excellent painters. In the world of sports J. C. Honeycutt is playing pro-football with the Chicago Bears and his brother, Jason, along with Charles Gardner, is coaching at two large colleges. Reid Lemly is playing with the House of David baseball team and is very proud of his six-inch beard. The once Cannon high trio, composed of Margaret Brooks, Hilda Maulden and Margaret Helms, have done themselves proud singing with a big-time band and making trips to Hollywood. Among the politicians who never smoke anything but 5 0-cent cigars, we notice Ed Nimer. Marvin Benton, Clifford Childers, Carl Cline, and Phil Howell. Joe Honeycutt has his own dance band featuring Charles Misenheimer, James L. Bost, and Wade Allen. Other music-makers are Carlvin Robinson and Betty Puntch. The greatest magician since the death of Houdini presents itself in the form of Charles Redman. His special trick is sawing Alfred Morgan in half. Girls who took the fatal step, marriage, and settled down early are, Shine Pinner, Frances Morton, Laura Bell Norton, Faye Nell Overcash and Polly Simpson. Frank Litaker has become one of the strongest men in the world. He pals around with Arthur Pethel and Mack Earnhardt, who are radio experts. Boys who liked the armed forces so well that they decided upon it for their life ' s work are: Robert Fowler, Glenn Bost, Richard Dixon. Carl Duncan, Norris Keller and Ruben Meeks. Geraldine Braswell, Margie Dancy and Virginia Perry are library workers. All excel in this field. Mary Dean Whitten, who learned how to make synthetic butter from cream, is now a world famous chemist. Others who have profited by their scientific knowledge are Helen Miller, Evelyn McDaniel and Ruth Pethel. Margaret Roberts and Mary Dellinger have opened a big dancing school in New York and have been very successful in their work, especially in teaching men. Girls, who threw caution to the wind, lost their better judgment, and have turned out to be school teachers are: Ollie Tillie. Mildred Payne, Eva Walters, Opal Towell and Wilma Tyson. Mildred Carter and Betty Meachem are both coaching high school basketball teams and having a great deal of success. Adelle Price developed a new type of hair curler and has become very rich. She has as her partners Louise Poteat, Daphne Reynolds and Doris Richardson. Gene Holbrooks, undecided bachelor, and Robert Black, his partner, have opened giant Meat Markets all over the country and have made so much money, they hired four public accountants to keep track of it. They are: James Whittington, Kathleen Withers, Ellen Dishman and Kenny Overcash. The nursing schools have claimed some of our cutest girls. Kat Gibson, Elsie Daves and Frances Bolan do honor to this profession. Many of our old classmates have excelled in newspaper work. Hilda Edmiston, Aleene Payne, J. C. Barbee and Blanche Chastain are all famous feature writers. Ruth Sneed, Ruby Wike, Dorothy Hampton. Katherine Bowles and Vendelia Cauble have all turned out to be policewomen. (They all get their men.) Charles Ross now heads the American Airways, a large plane transportation company. A few of his pilots are: Hartsell Hargett, Harold Nash, Frank Teal, and Cecil Gabriel. Famous “Horse Opera stars out in Hollywood are James Artz, Johnnie Christie and Everett Heintz.
