Class History In September of 1954. 61 very green freshmen started making their history at Cannelton High School. The students came from Junior High, St. Michael’s, Conailidated, Rome, and Tobinsport grade schools. At our first class meeting we elected the following officers: president. Bob Milburn; vice president, Guy Schroeder; secretary, Dorothy Nugent; treasurer, Raymond Jellison; and Berta Sanders, historian. The student council members were Donald Rearden, Bob Milburn, and Betty Jane Etienne. Coach Joe Hafele and Miss Mabel Damm were selected as our sponsors. The following girls were chosen as freshmen cheerleadrrs: Erma Zellers, Betty Jane Etienne, Jane Lou Hair, and Berta Sanders. Our freshman team was the runner-up in the freshman tourney at Owensville. Betty Jane Etienne was in the cast of the All School Play. Dorothy Nugent and Jane Lou Hair represented the clAss as attendants to the Football queen, and Betty Jane Etienne and Berta Sanders were attendants to the Basketball queen. On class day five freshmen received special awards. Betty Jane Etienne and Raymond Jellison received the activities award; Guy Schroeder, the athletic award; and Tom Northenor and Berta Sanders, the scholarship award. Fifty-six of the silliest sophomores that ever graced the halls of C.H.S. returned to their second year of high school. The following officers were elected: president Guy Schroeder; vice president, Betty Jane Etienne; secretary, Glodean Kellems; treasurer, Marilyn Fuchs; and historian, Berta Sanders. Mr. Charles Paulin and Mr. Russell Clements were selected as our sponsors. Our student council representatives were Daisy Sinclair, Guy Schroeder, and Donald Rearden. Glodean Kellems and Berta Sanders were the sophomore attendants to the football queen, and Betty Jane Etienne and Jane Lou Hair were attendants to the basketball queen. Daisy Sinclair, Betty Jane Etienne, Tom Northenor, and Raymond Jellison were in the cast of the All School Play. Our class jackets and class rings were chosen in our sophomore year. In the fall of 1957, k5 Jolly juniors returned to Cannelton High to continue their high school education. Guy Schroeder was re-elected as our junior presdient, Raymond Jellison was vice president, Janice Self was secretary. Opal Bolin was treasurer, and Berta Sanders was re-elected historian. The student council representatives were Jane Lou Hair, Guy Schroeder, and Bobby Steinsberger. Miss Marlene Day and Mr. Charles Paulin were chosen as our class sponsors. Jane Lou Hair and Daisy Sinclair were varsity cheerleaders for the second year. Janice S lf and Donna McFall were the junior attendants to the football queen. Marilyn Fuchs and Opal Bolin were the basketball attendants. Bobby Steinsberger, Betty Jane Etienne, and Bi»rta Sanders were in the cast of the All School Play. The junior class entertained the seniors with the annual junior-senior prom at the Hoosier Heights County Club. A great deal of hard work was spent on the planning of the prom. The theme of the prom was Hawaiian Cruise. On class night Raymond Jellison received the award of the outstanding junior. Berta Sanders was selected as the representative to attend Hoosier Girls State and Opal Bolin was her alternate. Thirty-seven dignified seniors returned to C.H.S. to complete one of the busiest and most important years of their high school carrers. The officers elected for our senior year were Guy Schroeder, president; Raymond Jellison, vice president; Opal Bolin, treasurer; Marilyn Fuchs, secretary: and Berta Sanders historian. The senior student council representatives were Guy SchroedeTj who was also president of the student council, Bobby Steinsberger, and Jane Lou Hair. Miss Marlene Day and Mr. Charles Paulin were again selected as our sponsors. Betty Jane Etienne, Daisy Sinclair, and Jane Lou Hair were varsity cheerleaders. Berta Sanders was crowned the 1957-56 football queen and Wanda Seifert was Maid of Honor. Daisy Sinclair was the basketball queen and Betty Jane Etienne was her Maid of Honor. Marilyn Fuchs, Betty Jane Etienne, and Berta Sanders were in the cast of the all school play. The senior class chose as their colors, black and white. The caps and gowns were to be black and the class flower was the white carnation. The senior celebrities chosen for the Notlennac are as follows: Most Popular Boy, Guy Schroeder; Most Popular Girl, Betty Jane Etienne; Most Talented, Opal Bolin; Prettiest Girl, Wanda Seifert; Best Looking Boy; Raymond Jellison; and Most Likely to Succeed, Berta Sanders. These students were chosen by the senior class. Berta Sanders received the D. A. R. good citizen, ship award from Cannelton High. The senior class dedicated the Notlennac to Mr. Charles Paulin, our sponsor. The senior class presented the play Let Me Grow Up . This year closes our high school carreers and also brings to a close the history that we the seniors of 1958 have made at Cannelton High School.
