Class Prophesy May Zb, 1971, proved to be a very unusual day in my life. I decided to go for a vacation, back to dear old Cannelton, Indiana. I left at dawn. After driving for awhile, I decided to stop at a small roadside cafe for a rest. A gas attendant ran out to serve me. and I suddenly recognized his face. Charlie Maxey, is that you? He said, Carol, come in and see who’s washing for me. I did, ar.d there was Anna Jean Perry with soapsuds up to her elbows. V e had quite a reunion that morning and Charlie told me that Lovell Carter was his chief competitor and had a large station right down the road. Next, I stopped in to see Lovell and he told me that Bill Johnson had been made tenth vice-president of the McYess Products Corporation and bought gas from him occasionally for his 1971 Cadillac. He also knew that Betty Jo (Elverd) Roberts was near by with her husband and was still a close friend of Patsy Milburn who was now a very successful dress designer. Around dusk I reached St. Louis, Missouri. I decided to spend the night at the Hotel Claridge where we had-stayed on our senior trip. A very suave clerk cane to the desk to receive me and after staring at him a full five minutes, I yelled, Polky, what in the wor d are you doing here? It was the sane Larry Polk, just 15 years older. He had his most efficient bellhop take my bags and that turned out to be Gary Lit-herlana. Larry invited me to go out with him that evening to see the surprise of my life. We went to the most exclusive night club in town and in enormous lights across the marquee were these wordsJ The St. Louis Woman=Nedre Gaynar. Larry had to catch me after that. I went backstage after the show to Nedra. I had a terrible tine getting past her body-guard until we recognized each other. Norman Lainl” I exclaimed. First Nedra told me that Jgnice Sue York was in Evansville operating a baby-sitting agency. She also told me about Janis Evans who was made head nurse at the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Texas and Marilyn Hafele who had married Ronnie, Nedra’s brother, 1L years ago. She even showed me a card she had received a couple of years ago, from Athens, Greece, where Marvin Sturgeon had won the Olympic half-mile. There was also a note on the bottom from Hilbert Seibert, Marvin’s manager. I made it to Evansville by dark and looked up Janice Sue. She took me over to Betty Jean (Mattingly) McDaniels’ house that evening where I learned that Betty Jean was personal sec retary and bookkeeper at the Hay Engineering Company Stephen and Denny Hay were partners and seemed to be doing a tremendous amount of business. Next we stopped at Lucretia’s Exclusive Beauty Salon and there was Elaine Sutton. What a surprise that wast Janice Sue also told me that Shirley Sturgeon was doing commercial art work and Roscoe Schroeder was a contoritionist in the Greatest Show On Earth. The next morning I started on the last leg of myjourney to Cannelton. I stopped on the way to see Barbara(McBrayer) Fulton who was living in Rockport and Richard Bolin who had returned to his beloved Troy to operate a general store. I also visited in Tell City where I saw Mary Ann(Etienne) Blandford. She was holding an important position in the bank which she had acquired after training at Lockyears's. When I reached Cannelton at noon, I went to Lyon’s Cafe for lunch, but when I arrived at the location, I saw the Main Street Tavern. I went in and saw Lee Roy Rhodes and Wayne Garrett tending bar. I immediately recognized one of the customers--David Adams. He told me that he had a farm which covered half of Perry County. I inquired about the rest of my classmates who had lived in Rome and Tobinsport and found out that most of them were still there, but the population had increased tremendously. 'When I asked how that happened. Mousey shouted, Jay Hall did itt Yes, Jay Hall was the proud papa of 20 kids. I learned that Robert Chancellor was operating a Willys Jeep Agency. David also told me that Robert Harpe had become a forest ranger and he and his assistant, Francis Stowe, had developed many new types of trees. As I walked around the town, I noticed a huge sewing shop. I entered and there were three more of my old friends-Ruthie Hogue, Floretta Schraner, and Lillian Schellenburger. They told me they had used their Home Ec Training to start in business professionally. I asked about Betty and Dot Reed and wasn’t too supprised to hear that they were co-mayors of Cannelton. I knew someone must have been responsible for the progress of the town. They also told me that Jimmy Gaynor had been in the army for 15 years and Richard Sanders as I expected was an admiral in the US Coast Guard. As I was leaving Floretta yelled out the door that Joyce Shore, was a Hostess on Eastern Airline. Well, I had located L0 of my classmates. Only Sandy Braun remained. At the courthouse I found a record of her marriage to a millionaire oil well owner from- Oaklahoma City. I made the trip home in record time. I entered the door tired but happy and said, Jake, I believe I could write a book about the fate of the Class of ’561 18

I, Marilyn Hafele, will my ability to go steady to Daisy Sinclair. I, Jay Hall, will my seat in Home Room to Teddy Bear(Charles Seibert). I, Robert Harpe, will my chemistry book to Leon Whitehead. I, Denny Hay, have nothing to will. I, Stephen Hay, will my US All Pro Keds Basketball shoes to David Raush . I, Ruth Hogue, will my position as librarian to Kathy Raley. I, Billy Johnson , will Nephew Terry to Coach Hafele. I, Norman Lain, will my fast starts and slow finishes in Track to Guy Schroeder. I, Gary Litherland, will my willingness to stay in school to Buddy Litherland. I, Barbara McBrayer, will my part of the highway to Grandview to Marian Spencer. I, Betty Mattingly, will my Bookkeeping book to anyone. I, Charles Maxey, will my job after school to anyone who wants it. I, Pat Milburn, will my ability to be at school on time ot Jackie Hall. I, Anna Jean Perry, will my position as Majorette to Sonja Badger I, Larry Polk, will my position on the basketball team to Jerry Minto. I, Betty Reed, will my position as Editor of the Notlennac to anyone. I, Dorothy Reed, will my attendance record to Billy Garrett » I, Leroy Rhodes, will my lucky Football jersey, number 13, to Ray Jellison.
