CLASS HISTORY On September 7, 1948, forty-one students enrolled in C. H. S. coming from the Jr. High, Consolidated, Rome, Gerald, and Tobinsport grade schools. At our first class meeting the following officers were elected: John Sutters, president; Jane Seifert, vice-president; Darrel Allen, secretary; Barbara Cox, treasurer; and Freddie Davis, historian. The sponsors for the freshman year were Miss Mabel Damm and Mr. Enlow. Norman Scifres and Barbara Cox were elected for Student Council. The following awards were given at the end of the year: Roy Maxey and Vernell Bryant, Athletic Award; Sam Baker, Scholastic Award; and Carol Huber, Activities Award. At the beginning of our sophomore year our enrollment had increased to forty-five. On September 13 the following class officers were elected: Norman Scifres, president; Carol Huber, vice-president; Mary Agnes Goffient, secretary; Mary Lou Zellers, treasurer, and Sam Baker, historian. Mrs. Vaughn and Coach Galloway were chosen as class sponsors and Carol Huber and George Powers were elected as Student Council members. The jolly juniors opened the school year 1950 with thirty-eight students. The following officers were elected to lead our class: Sam Baker, president; Barbara Cox, vice-president; Mary Goffient, secretary; Bill Estes, treasurer, and Eva Rose Ramsey, historian. George Powers, Carol Huber, and Norman Scifres represented the junior class in the Student Council. Miss Anslinger and Mr. Etienne were our class sponsors. Members of the junior class on the Notlennac staff were: Ralph Hyde assistant editor; Carol Huber, assistant circulation manager, and Norman Hay, assistant underclassman editor. Juniors on the Hi-Life staff were: Sammy Baker, associate editor; Mary Frances Harding, copy reader; Eva Rose Ramsey, Myers reporter, and Barbara Cox, typist. We juniors were well dressed in our new class jackets, sweaters, and ring in the fall of our junior year. Carol Huber was varsity cheerleader from the junior class. In the fall of 1950 we conducted a magazine sale with two sides with the losers treating the winners to a party at Hay's Camp. The main project for our class was the Junior and Senior Prom. It was held at the Hoosier Heights Country Club, May 12. A good time was had by all who attended. Carol Huber and Sam Baker were chosen as representatives to Girl's and Boy's State respectively. Mary Frances Harding and Norman Hay were their respective alternates. After three months vacation thirty-seven dignified seniors returned to complete the final year of their high school education. During our senior year the enrollment dropped to thirty-five due to Earl McCaminack's moving and Bill Estes' having had to go to the Air Force. Also during the school year Margaret Colbert married James Bryant, a graduate of '50. Margaret kept up her studies and is receiving her diploma with her fellow-class mates. Jane Seifert, George Powers, and Norman Scifres represented the senior class in the Student Council. LIPP'S HOME FURNISHERS Phone 155 Everything for the home Tell City
