H. S. coming from the Jr. High, Consolidated, Rome, Gerald, and Tobinsport grade schools. At our first class meeting the following officers were elected: John Sutters, president; Jane Seifert, vice-president; Darrel Allen, secretary; Barbara Cox, treasurer; and Freddie Davis, historian. The sponsors for the freshman year were Miss Mabel Damm and Mr. Enlow. Norman Scifres and Barbara Cox were elected for Student Council. The following awards were given at the end of the year: Roy Maxey and Vernell Bryant, Athletic Award; Sam Baker, Scholastic Award; and Carol Huber, Activities Award. At the beginning of our sophomore year our enrollment had increased to forty-five. On September 13 the following class officers were elected: Norman Scifres, president; Carol Huber, vice-president; Mary Agnes Goffient, secretary; Mary Lou Zellers, treasurer, and Sam Baker, historian. Mrs. Vaughn and Coach Galloway were chosen as class sponsors and Carol Huber and George Powers were elected as Student Council members. The jolly juniors opened the school year 1950 with thirty-eight students. The following officers were elected to lead our class: Sam Baker, president; Barbara Cox, vice-president; Mary Goffient, secretary; Bill Estes, treasurer, and Eva Rose Ramsey, historian. George Powers, Carol Huber, and Norman Scifres represented the junior class in the Student Council. Miss Anslinger and Mr. Etienne were our class sponsors. Members of the junior class on the Notlennac staff were: Ralph Hyde assistant editor; Carol Huber, assistant circulation manager, and Norman Hay, assistant underclassman editor. Juniors on the Hi-Life staff were: Sammy Baker, associate editor; Mary Frances Harding, copy reader; Eva Rose Ramsey, Myers reporter, and Barbara Cox, typist. We juniors were well dressed in our new class jackets, sweaters, and ring in the fall of our junior year. Carol Huber was varsity cheerleader from the junior class. In the fall of 1950 we conducted a magazine sale with two sides with the losers treating the winners to a party at Hay's Camp. The main project for our class was the Junior and Senior Prom. It was held at the Hoosier Heights Country Club, May 12. A good time was had by all who attended. Carol Huber and Sam Baker were chosen as representatives to Girl's and Boy's State respectively. Mary Frances Harding and Norman Hay were their respective alternates. After three months vacation thirty-seven dignified seniors returned to complete the final year of their high school education. During our senior year the enrollment dropped to thirty-five due to Earl McCaminack's moving and Bill Estes' having had to go to the Air Force. Also during the school year Margaret Colbert married James Bryant, a graduate of '50. Margaret kept up her studies and is receiving her diploma with her fellow-class mates. Jane Seifert, George Powers, and Norman Scifres represented the senior class in the Student Council. The following officers were elected to lead our class: Sam Baker, president; Carol Huber, vice-president; Mary Agnes Goffinet, secretary; Margaret Colbert, treasurer; and Eva Rose Ramsey, historian. In November Mary Agnes resigned her position as secretary and Barpara Cox was elected to take her place. .Ve chose as our motto, Effort Brings Success. class colors as blue and white, and the American Beauty Rose as our class flower Carol Huber served as varsity cheerleader during her senior year also. Jane Seifert was crowned basketball queen in her senior year by Roy Maxey, captain of the team. The senior play cast, under the direction of Mrs. Vaughn, presented Bachelor Bait. Those in the cast were Barbara Cox Jane Seifert, Carol Huber, Mary Harding, Eva Rose Ramsey, David Ramsey, Dennis Davis, Norman Hay, and Sam Baker. I, Robert Elder, will my psychology book to Jimmy Steinsberger. I. Mary Agnes Goffinet, will my position as student librarian to June Lyons. I, Mary Frances Harding, will my job in Mr. Lanman's office to my sister, Loretta Fay. I, Norman Hay, will to my brother, Denny Hay, access to my book, HOW TO GET FREE TIME ON SCHOOL TIME. It worked very well for me, Denny. I, Carol Huber, will my position as cheerleader to Joyce Franzman. Carry on, Joyce. I, Ralph Hyde, will all my gold and silver coins and other treasures to the first Can-nelton High School boy to high jump 10 feet. I, Wally Johnson, will my curly hair to The David Chenault; also I will all my track ribbons to Russell Stith. Take good care of them because I had a hard time getting them. I, Burton Lanman, will my bushy hair to Wanda McFarling. I, Roy Maxey, will my position on the football team to H. T. Poore. I, Sidney Morris, will my ball, chain, number, and suit to Charles Ell. They are not very good, but they will do until you get out of school. I, Mary Ruth Poore, will my naturally curly hair to Joyce Shores. Take good care of it, Joyce. I, Charlie Powers, will my boxing ability and good looks to Denny Hay, not that he needs it. 1 I, David Powers, will my way with Tell City girls to Gene Clemens. You should know all about them. I, George Powers, will my typing ability to Tommy Sommers. There may be some who didn't think I was the best, but you will have a hard time filling my shoes. I, David Ramsey, will my position in the Bookkeeping class to Norman Nugent. I, Eva Rose Ramsey, will my job as dish dryer at the school cafeteria to Betty Lou Seifert. I, Stephan Rutherford, will my brilliant piano technique to Judy Cadwell. Don't do anything I wouldn't do. I, Norman Scifres, will my band uniform to Dickie Meador. I, Jo Sharon, will my height to Betty Bryant. I, Mary Jane Seifert, will my basketball crown to Augusta Walls. I, Homer Sinclair, will my 90 pounds in weight to Charles Skinner because he is so little. I, John Sutters, will my marriage license to Jimmy Steinsberger and JudyCadwell. Take good care of it. I, Frederick Whitehead, will my blonde hair to anyone that wants it. Tell City Indiana CLASS PROPHECY As I gaze into the future, I am able to catch a glimpse of the seniors of 1952. This is what I discover about their exciting lives and successes. Darrel Allen has been elected president of the Second National Bank, recently established in Cannelton. Samuel Baker is editor and sole owner of Baker Publications, largest in the United States. This came aboutafter runningHurst and Curtis Publications out of business. David Claude Ramsey, now dictator of Soviet Russia, is world famous for his well-planned overthrow of their government. Robert Alvey is now the city dog catcher. He received this position after years of faithful service to Cannelton. Jo Shearnis a model for the new parisian dress shoppe in Tobinsport, owned and operated by Mary Ruth Poore. Professor George G. Powers - dean of Evansville College, announced today that Sidney Morris was unanimously elected janitor of the laboratory. Senator Homer Sinclair is serving his third term as an Indiana representative to Congress. It has been reported that J. Stephan Rutherford has been booked at City Hall for vagrancy. He was picked up by sheriff, Mary Frances Harding, at the railroad yards trying to catch a ride on a freight car. Mr. and Mrs. James Bryant and their four lovely children are residing in their country estate at Rome, Indiana. Mrs. Bryant is former Miss Margaret Colbert. Vernell Bryant is the coach of the Tell City Marksmen. Robert Elder is pilot of his own passenger plane which makes daily flights between Cannelton and Tell City. Miss Mary Jane Seifert is the qualified and efficient hostess. Norman Hay, leader of the Hay, Powers, and Sheldon gang, was recently liquidated by the now notorious, Ralph Hyde, leader of the Hyde. Shores, and Meador gang. Norman Scifres will soon be featuring, Jigger's Jazz Band. Gary Dawson is now touring Europe as a professional magician and hypnotist. He is being accompanied by Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Barbara Cox, having replaced Kathryn Grayson in her leading movie roles, is rapidly singing her way to stardom. Robert VanConia won the hundred-yard dash in 5 seconds flat. He got his training while rushing around in his high school days. Eva Rose Ramsey is proprietor of a forth and coming drive-in restaurant at Rome, Indiana. Roy Maxey recently received the Heisman Award for the best athlete of the year. News comes from the Supreme Court Judge Frederick Whitehead, that trial for Dewey Burton is set for June 17. Dewey was recently arrested by state policeman, John Sutters, having caught him setting fire to Cannelton High School. David Powers is captain of a new air force base on the road to Tell City. After losing the race for President, Harry S. Truman is now David's aid. Carol Huber is the fortune teller in a sideshow of the Barnum Bailey's circus. She sees all, tells all, and knows nothing. Wallace Johnson is Commander of the newly built submarine baselocated at the site of the old ferry landing in Cannelton. Howard Smith has become principal of Cannelton High. Need we say more! Burton Lanman is director of M. G. M. motion pictures. He had his start in operating the movie machines at C. H. S. Frances Allen is hostess of the Corral Dining Room in the Waldorf-Astoria. Miss Allen was inspired to this position through her employment at the Sunlight Hotel. Charles Herman Powers, better known as Pretty Boy, is the only Jockey to win 10 Kentucky Derbys. Theywere represented in Student Council by Augusta Walls, David Chenault, and Jimmy Steinsberger. The juniors received their class rings and jackets in the fall. June Lyons Augusta Walls and Joyce Franzman served as varsity cheerleaders from the junior class. The junior-senior prom, held at the Hoosier Heights Country Club was sponsored by the junior class. The following boys won major award certificates in football, Dick Meador, Norman Schroeder, David Shores and Raymond Raley. David Chenault, Norman Nugent, Norman Schroeder, and Dickie Meador received certificates for basketball. David Shores earned a letter and JimmyStein-sberger won a minor award. Letters in track were received by: Dickie Meador, Jimmy Milburn, Raymond Raley, Norman Schroeder, David Shores, and Jimmy Steinsberger. Jimmy Steinsberger and Norman Nugent earned major award certificates in baseball. Charles Rutherford received a letter. Augusta Walls and Jimmy Milburn were chosen as representatives to go to Girl's and Bov's State. Joyce Franzman and Norman Schroeder were alternates. Every two weeks 500 copies of a four page--five columns to a page --edition were published by this staff. All work was done on the students' own time; there was no journalism class. Seventeen issued were distributed free to the students of Cannelton High School and Myers Grade School during the school year. The Christmas issue consisted of eight pages and the special issue at the end of football season contained six. On April 1 1952, a special April Fool edition was published. Norman Hay. Augusta Walls and Joyce Franzman were absent when the picture was taken. The concert band organized in 1925, is our most nearly professional organization. Mr. Russell Clements, head of the music department, is the director of the band. This group appears at all basketball games and presents very colorful halftime shows at all football games. On the Fourth of July, Armistice Day, etc., you will always see them on parade. In fact, anytime the community calls they willingly respond. The band enters all contests conducted by the IndianaSchool Music Association and many of its members participate annually in the Solo and Ensemble contest.
