CLASS HISTORY (Continued) Mary Nell Minto in her senior year was crowned, by popular vote, basketball queen by David Braun, captain of the basketball team. Betty Snyder was maid of honor. We went to Mammoth Cave on our class outing. This outing was not only enjoyed by the class but also by our sponsors Mrs. Vaughn and Mr. Ramsey. Senior service metals were given to all band members of the class which included Robert Clements, Daisy Baker, Mary Nell Minto, Tom Reynolds, Betty Snyder, David Walls, and Norma Jean Williams. The Arion Award was won by Mary Nell Minto which is a National Band Award decided by the band by secret vote. Iola Powers, having the highest scholastic rating, received the honor of being Valedictorian. Betty Snyder, her runner-up, was Salutatorian. David Farmer received a certificate for having perfect attendance throughout his four high school years. Betty Estes also received a perfect attendance certificate during her senior year. The Travel Club Award, which is given to seniors only, was won by Betty Snyder. Tom Reynolds, who had been in five all-school plays and the senior play, received the Thespian Award. The Hi-Y Award, given to the most outstanding athlete of the senior class, was won by David Braun. The award given by the Junior Chamber of Commerce was also won by David Braun. Betty Snyder, by winning both the local and county essay contest, was presented with the DAR Award. The GAA Award was given to the most outstanding and deserving senior girl athlete, Daisy Baker. The Hall Award in remembrance of R. B. Hall was given to David Braun. Daisy Baker won second in the essay contest sponsored by the Legion Auxilliary. David Walls won the poppy poster contest. A few of our students who are planning to further their education by going to college have won scholarships. Daisy Baker received a Special from Indiana University. Betty Snyder, a state; and David Walls a Special Merit. Mary Nell Minto received a Music Scholarship from Evansville College. The American Legion awarded Betty Snyder and Tom Reynolds as being the most outstanding boy and girl of the class. The members of the class andfaculty selected these students. Mary Nell Minto and David Walls received honorable mention certificates. The Rev. Merril B. Me Fall, Methodist Church at Bloomington, Indiana, delivered our commencement address, Tuesday evening, May 23, His subject was Living Life on Tiptoe.
