CLASS HISTORY On September 5, 1947, sixty-one greenies were enrolled in the school of Cannelton High. Many of these students had come from Myers Grade School while the remainder were from Rome, Derby, Tobinsport, St. Michael's and Consolidated. Our first class meeting was for the purpose of selecting class officers and sponsors. The first class president to be selected was Jack Cushman. The other officers for the class were John Joe Hicks, vice-president; Melvin Lauer, secretary; Alice Ahl, treasurer; Mary Nell Minto, historian; Betty Snyder, reporter. Our sponsors were Miss Mable Damm and Mr. John Croy. Norma Jean Williams and Alvin Schmidt were selected our Student Council representatives. Three of our outstanding members of the freshman class received annual awards. The Scholastic Award was won by Daisy Baker, Activities Award by Betty Snyder, and the Athletic Award by Norman Franzman. Thus ended our well spent days as green freshies for now we had advanced to our second year as Sophomores. Our enrollment for the sophomore year lowered to fifty-three due to some withdrawals during the previous year. Mrs. Vaughn and Mr. Worland were our class sponsors. Our class officers were as follows: president, John Joe Hicks; vice-president, Alice Ahl; secretary, Tom Reynolds; treasurer, Joann Williams; historian, Mary Nell Minto. Student Council representatives who were elected for that year were Mary Nell Minto and David Walls. The jolly juniors entered the new school year with forty-nine students. This year we were hosts to the seniors at the Junior-Senior Prom. The prom, named the Stardust Prom , was held at the Hoosier Heights Country Club, which was decorated beautifully, with Si Kohnon and his orchestra as entertainment. Betty Snyder was honored that year by being selected for Girl's State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxilliary. Her alternate was Betty Geer. David Walls was selected for Boy's State. However, since David was unable to attend, Norman Franzman, his alternate, became the Boy's State representative. Eva Catherine Harding became the proud recipient of the Kiwanis Award that year. Our sponsors were Miss Carolyn Hudson and Mr. Roy Enlow. The class officers were: president, David Walls; vice-president, Norma Jean Williams; secretary, Beatrice Sixx; treasurer, Joann Williams; historian, Mary Nell Minto. The Student Council representatives were Mary Nell Minto, John Joe Hicks, and Tom Reynolds. After a well-earned vacation, forty-two returned for the final and most exciting year of all - our Senior year. Mrs. Mildred Vaughn and Mr. Denny Ramsey were chosen to be our class sponsors. David Walls was elected president; Betty Snyder, vice-president; Sharron Kinghan, secretary; Norman Franzman, treasurer; Mary Nell Minto, historian.
