daii 1 On Tuesday September 3,1946, seventy-two eager and wide-eyed students entered Cannelton High School from Myers Grade School, St, Michael’s, Rome, Consolidated, Tobinsport, and Derby to begin their first course of study which would continue for the next four years. At the organization meeting of our freshman class the following officer s were elected: Charles Kendall, President; Goria Ramsay, Vice-President; Gloria Schwartz, Secretary; Bainbridge Phelps, Treasurer; Margie Dixon, Historian. Charles Mattingly and Mildred Mogan were our student council representatives. Miss Norma Schnell and Miss Mabel Damm were our sponsors. The recipients of the annual freshman awards were: Mildred Mogan, Scholastic Award; Ronald Sheldon, Activities Award; Charles Kendall, Athletic Award. Since we, as “green freshies, had endured all the trials of our first year successfully, we looked forward eagerly for the next year. We began our sophomore year with our membership reduced to seventy students. During this year the following officers were elected: Richard Poore, President; Mildred Mogan, Vice-President; John Lee Conway, Secretary; Bainbridge Phelps, Treasurer. Vencil Varbleand Delores Gaynor were our student council representatives. Mr. Foster Park and Mr. Kern McGlothlin were our sponsors for this year. During this year John Ham, Curt Richey, Vencil Varble, Pat Smith, Margaret Allen, Mildred Rutherford, and John Lee Conway organized a small band to play for school convocations and dances. Also during this year we ordered our class rings and sweaters. We began our “jolly junior year with bright new class rings and sweaters. The following officers were elected to lead our class of sixty-one members through their junior year: C. W. Powers, President; Sarah Moore, Vice-President; Barbara Nell Hendrie, Secretary; Dwain Love, Treasurer; John Lee Conway, Historian. Emory Yaggi, Vencil Varble, and Wanda Lee Harding were to represent our class in the student council this year. Our sponsors were Mr. Edgar Etienne and Mrs. Maurice Worland. This year we were hosts to the seniors at the banquet and dance at the K. of C. Home in Tell City. The most important year of our high school career was just beginning and we were to be led through this year by the following officers: C. W. Powers, President; Margie Thiry, Vice-President; Wanda Lee Harding, Secretary; Charles Mattingly, Treasurer; John Lee Conway, Historian. Vencil Varble, Emory Yaggi, and John Ham were our student council representatives this year. Our sponsors were Mr. Edgar Etienne and Miss Ninabelle Hurt. The enrollment of our class at the beginning of our senior year was fifty-nine, but one student withdrew during the year which left a total of fifty-eight students. This will be the largest class ever to graduate from Cannelton High School. Our chief project for this year was the yearbook, NOTLENNAC; which was accomplished under the direction of Miss Ninabelle Hurt. The staff included the following seniors: Wanda Lee Harding, Vencil Varble, Donna Lorenz, John Ham, Emory Yaggi, Charles Mattingly, Sarah Moore, Delores Gaynor, Dwain Love, and Midlred Mogan. These seniors were also assisted by a few of the juniors. The following seniors also helped to edit the school paper, THE HI-LIFE: Sarah Moore, Gloria Ramsey, Delores Gaynor, Anna Mae Mitchell, Shirley Glenn, and John Lee Conway. “Ambition has no rest was our class motto; our class colors were blue and white; our class flower was the white carnation. Our class song, Good-by Cannelton Hi, was written by Pat Smith, Margie Thiry, and Betty Johnson. Many small incidents happened during our four years in high school to make those years the most memorable in our lives. We won the class tourney during our freshman arid sophomore years, respectively. Charles Kendall broke the Pocket Athletic Conference scoring record in football. Lowell Zellers represneted our school in the state cross countrymeetandmadea very good showing. This concludes the history of Cannelton High School's senior class for 1950.

Ellen Groves, new York's wealthy fashion designer, HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT SHE WILL RETURN TO CANNE LTON. At the Stork Club--a sensational contract has recently been signed. Pat Clark has agreed to sing FOR ANOTHER TWELVE WEEKS. OhJ The view is changing. We see a theater, a circus; yes, we're moving into the entertainment WORLD. AT HOLLYWOOD--GLOR I A RAMSEY, STAR OF WONOER Woman, finally got as her leading man Maurice Sheppard, for the production, Superman . On M.G.M's set--the famous skating stars, Mary Jean Thorn, Wanda Lee Harding, Imogene King, and Margie Smith, are shooting scenes for the production, Skater's Waltz, which is under the direction of Sonjia Henie. Dolores Gaynor and the Swing Kids, after they finish their movie, will come to Cannelton to RENDER SWEET MUSIC FOR THE JUNIOR SENIOR PROM. After returning from her world tour, Betty Johnson AND HER DANCING PARTNER, GENE KELLY, PLAN TO ENTERTAIN THEIR CANNELTON FRIENDS AT THE COMMUNITY Building. What's this? Is Arthur Murray giving up his DANCING STUDIOS? YES, CURT RlCHEY IS GIVING HIM TOO MUCH COMPETITION. Hmmm-m Barnum and Bailey's Circus. We always knew Lee Harrison had an enchanting voice. But we NEVER KNEW HE COULD charm SNA KES--HE PRACTICES ON WORMS NOW. Carnegie Hall—a silence falls over the audience; THE CURTAINS ARE PARTING; AND INTO THE LIMELIGHT steps Patricia Alvey, the famous opera star, portraying Lady Godiva. Over C.B.S., can be heard the sweet lyrics of the former Cackle Sister of C.H.S., Donna Lorenz. Following the Donna Lorenz program, you will HEAR THAT WORLD RENOWNED SPORTS ANNOUNCER, JOHN Lee Conway, bringing you Highlights on Sports , THAT WILL HOLD SPECIAL INTEREST FOR CANNELTONIANS. For once again Cannelton's All Star Athlete, Margaret Allen, set a new record. This time she swam the English Channel in 5 hours and 13 minutes. Speaking of swimming, do you remember Friedel White-head WHO MADE HEADLINES WHEN HE RESCUED ESTHER Williams from German Ridge Lake? John Lee Conway ALSO COMMENTED ON THE FINE CHEERING SECTION OF THE Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and gave the due CREDIT TO THE CHEERLEADER RONNIE SHELDON. FlashI Lowell Zellers has just won the Kentucky Derby. The sensational thing about it is that he wasn't on a horse; it was just his superior running ability. Over our local station W.T.C.J.» disc-jockey, Ralph Kendall, occasionally gives bits of home news. Among the announcements the following concerned I95O seniors; (I) The key to Cannelton will be presented to THAT MULTI-MILLIONAIRE OIL PRODUCER, BA INBRIDGE Phelps, when he and his wife and 6 children arrive here Monday. (2) The D.A.R. will hear the well-known speaker, Loretta Conner. Her subject will be the Art of Homemak1ng. (3) Today, spinster, Mildred Mogan, came out of SECULSION, TO BUY HER ANNUAL SUPPLY OF GROCERIES. ( ) For the latest in hair styling, visit Cannelton's Beauty Salon, Shirley Glenn, owner will GIVE YOU A PROFESSIONAL PEROX DE STREAK. (5) Veterinarian; Bucky Mattingly, is looking FOR PAT IENTS--MAN OR BEASTS. (6) Having been a loyal member of Fred's Tribe FOR THE PAST FIFTEEN YEARS, REV. VENCIL VARBLE HAS NOW REFORMED AND IS PREACHING AT SAM'S TAVERN IN Lower Buck Town. (7) Trial for Edward Marmor is set for April 15 by the Supreme Court. Marmor was arrested for speeding in Cannelton by police officers Frank Groves and Alvey McDaniels. (8) Several appointments have been made both HERE AND ABROAD.
