TRIPLETS BORN TO LOCAL COUPLE Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Payne of Cannelton are the proud parents of three boys, who have been named Jim, Tim, and Kim. The little fellows weighed in at 4 lb., 4 lb. 5 oz., and 5 lb. respectively. The Payne's have one other child, Trudy, age six. Mrs. Payne is the former Miss Gertrude Bryant. FIRE 1 I Fire destroyed a large part of the business seotion of the city Friday, when Connor's Emporium burned to the ground. Large quantities of new goods had just been recieved by Mr. Bruce Connor, owner and manager, so the disaster struck at a most unfortunate time. The loss, as estimated by Paul Schrutter, President of the Riskall Insurance Company, was $800,000. Mr. Connor, however, oheerfully states that he oan meet this loss by selling twenty of the many airplanes he owns , which were recently designed for him personally by Marion Hall, noted designer and manufacturer of modern airoraft. 4 TRADE AT ♦BRUGGENSCPMIDT'S DEPT. SHIP’S LOG On September 6, 1946, forty-two pupils entered the freshman olass from Tell City, Hawesville, Rome, Derby, and other areas. The olass was divided into two groups with Mrs. Mildred Vaughn presiding over one group and Mr. A. C. Little over the other group. Jewell Parks received the scholarship award, and Paul Minto received the athelic award. Wilma Zellers received the activity award.We were well on our way to make the forty-niners well known. The olass officers were: Presi- dent, Juanita Harding; Vice-President, Paul Minto; Secretary, Jesse Glenn; Treasurer, Marian Franzman; Reporter, Allen Evans; and Historian, Phyllis May. In our sophomore year our olass enrollment went up to forty-seven, with President Allen Evans presiding overtime class during the election of offioers. They werej Vioe-President, Nellie May; Secretary, Marian Franzman; Treasurer, Betty Williams; Hi-Life Reporter, Wanda Wheeler; and Historian, Phyllis May. Student Council members representing the sophomores were Shirley Nichols and Wanda Shore. Upon the withdrawal of Shirley, Billy Badger was elected to representthe sophomore boys at the student oounoil meetings. Our sponsors this year were Mrs. Mildred Vaughn and Mr. A. C. Little. The jolly juniors entered the new school year with thirty-seven pupils. Miss Pauline Sommer and Mr. Edgar Etienne were elected class sponsors. The class officers were: President, Sidney Mogan; Vioe-President, Nellie May; Treasurer, Marian Franzman; Secretary, Connie Miller; Reporter, Wanda Wheeler; and Historian Phyllis May. Student Council members were Wanda Shore and Billy Badger. Marian Franzman was ohosen Football Queen. She was crowned at a ceremony performed by the football players. Wilma Zellers won the title of the best drum-major in the State of Indiana. Fhyllis May won a safety slogan contest, and received a prize of five dollars. Gloria D. Poore won first place in an essay contest and was awarded a prize of five dollars. In the state piano solo contest Luoille Spenoer plaoed second and Jewell Parks won first on tie bassoon. This year we received our class sweaters and olass rings. The juniors entertained the seniors by a prom at the Hoosier Height's Country Club with Dixie Davis' Orchestra as entertainment. Sidney Mogan served as host and Ralph Leitner as Master-of-Ceremony. A committee decorated the stage for the senior's bacoalaurate servioes. Seventy-five dollars was donated for the new movie projector by our olass. During our last and most important year as dignified seniors. Class officers were: President, Ralph Leitner; Vioe- President, Janet Forsaith; Treasurer, Eddie Paulin; Secretary, Luoille Spenoer; and Historian, Phyllis May. Wanda Shore, Nellie May and Billie Clark Glenn represented our class in the student counoil. Wanda was eleoted president and Nellie treasurer. New oheer leaders, all of whom were seniors, were ohosen. They were Wanda Shore, Wanda Wheeler, and Nellie May. Our olass sponsors were Miss E. Ruby Byerley and Mr. Foster Park. Beatrioe Claycomb, another member of our class, was crowned Basketball Queen when we were seniors. The eeremonies were conducted by Miss Byerley with the help of the school band and the basketball boys . The Notlennao staff was ohosen t publish the year book. It consisted of Editor-in-chief, Ralph Leitner; Copyreader, Luoille Spenoer; Typists, Juanita Harding and Lorna Sixx; Photo Editors, Janet Forsaith and Boa Claycomb; Advertising Editor, Joan Clemens; and Circulation Editor, Jesse Glenn. Our olass colors for our high schooldays were green and white. Pink and white carnations were our olass flowers. Our moto was Be square and be wise. Historian ii

INFORMER SOCIETY NOTES One of the most brilliant social events of the season took place last Saturday evening when Mrs. Lois Sue Hay Smythe gave a ball for the famous ballerina, Joan Clemens, and her husband. Miss Edith Morris, th6 popular florist, had decorated the Ball Room of Mrs. Smythe's thirty-room mansion very effectively for the occasion. Among those present were Miss Phyllis May, head buyer for Saks of New York City, Miss Lorna Sixx, famous author of Fourth Street Journey , and Billy Clark Glenn, Local dairy magnate. According to Miss Juanita Harding,Miss Clemens' Social Secretary, this was the most charming entertainment ever given for the danseuse. MILLER-GOODSON The Baptist Church here was the scene of a beautiful spring wedding last Monday evening when Miss Connie Miller became the bride of Mr. Ralph Goodson. Mrs. Goodson is a graduate of Indiana University. Mr. Goodson is the popular young vocalist who sings with Ralph Leitner and his orchestra, popularly known as Buddy’s Band. After a short honey moon, the couple will live in New York City, since Mr.Leitner's orchestra is currently booked at the Stork Club. REDHEADS TO PLAY HERE The Redheads, girlb nationally, famous pro basketball team, will play here next Wednesday. As lor the past four years, Cannelton’s own Norma Clements will play center. Reports say that Red is a real baltof-fire on the team. The proceeds of this game will go toward building a new hospital for mental patients, which will be supervised by Drs. Anna Van Conia and Jewell Parks. BADGER TO SUCCEED FRANK LEAHY Billy 0. Badger, former C. H« S. athlete, was recently named next yeart football coach at Notre Dane University. M .r. Badger coached one year at Indiana University, the next at Ohio State University and last year at Southern California. During these years his team did not lose a single game. CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE TO BE WAGED TONIGHT Sharply at 8 00 tonight at the Colliseum, Nellie May and world champion Torso Tessie will batxle for the title of Champion Heavy Weight Lady Wrestler. KINTO TO COACH HERE Last night it was announced that P. C. Minton All-American basketball star, will coach basketball here next year. He will arrive here next month with his wife and two-year-old son. He is famous for making 5,2S1 points during the four years he played for the Kentucky Wildcats. FORSAITH WINS U Janet Forsaith, one of America's contestants in the Olympic Games, last night took diving honors in women’s high diving. The night before she took high honors in swimming, and the night before that in dish-throwing.
