SHIP’S LOG On September 6, 1946, forty-two pupils entered the freshman olass from Tell City, Hawesville, Rome, Derby, and other areas. The olass was divided into two groups with Mrs. Mildred Vaughn presiding over one group and Mr. A. C. Little over the other group. Jewell Parks received the scholarship award, and Paul Minto received the athelic award. Wilma Zellers received the activity award.We were well on our way to make the forty-niners well known. The olass officers were: Presi- dent, Juanita Harding; Vice-President, Paul Minto; Secretary, Jesse Glenn; Treasurer, Marian Franzman; Reporter, Allen Evans; and Historian, Phyllis May. In our sophomore year our olass enrollment went up to forty-seven, with President Allen Evans presiding overtime class during the election of offioers. They werej Vioe-President, Nellie May; Secretary, Marian Franzman; Treasurer, Betty Williams; Hi-Life Reporter, Wanda Wheeler; and Historian, Phyllis May. Student Council members representing the sophomores were Shirley Nichols and Wanda Shore. Upon the withdrawal of Shirley, Billy Badger was elected to representthe sophomore boys at the student oounoil meetings. Our sponsors this year were Mrs. Mildred Vaughn and Mr. A. C. Little. The jolly juniors entered the new school year with thirty-seven pupils. Miss Pauline Sommer and Mr. Edgar Etienne were elected class sponsors. The class officers were: President, Sidney Mogan; Vioe-President, Nellie May; Treasurer, Marian Franzman; Secretary, Connie Miller; Reporter, Wanda Wheeler; and Historian Phyllis May. Student Council members were Wanda Shore and Billy Badger. Marian Franzman was ohosen Football Queen. She was crowned at a ceremony performed by the football players. Wilma Zellers won the title of the best drum-major in the State of Indiana. Fhyllis May won a safety slogan contest, and received a prize of five dollars. Gloria D. Poore won first place in an essay contest and was awarded a prize of five dollars. In the state piano solo contest Luoille Spenoer plaoed second and Jewell Parks won first on tie bassoon. This year we received our class sweaters and olass rings. The juniors entertained the seniors by a prom at the Hoosier Height's Country Club with Dixie Davis' Orchestra as entertainment. Sidney Mogan served as host and Ralph Leitner as Master-of-Ceremony. A committee decorated the stage for the senior's bacoalaurate servioes. Seventy-five dollars was donated for the new movie projector by our olass. During our last and most important year as dignified seniors. Class officers were: President, Ralph Leitner; Vioe- President, Janet Forsaith; Treasurer, Eddie Paulin; Secretary, Luoille Spenoer; and Historian, Phyllis May. Wanda Shore, Nellie May and Billie Clark Glenn represented our class in the student counoil. Wanda was eleoted president and Nellie treasurer. New oheer leaders, all of whom were seniors, were ohosen. They were Wanda Shore, Wanda Wheeler, and Nellie May. Our olass sponsors were Miss E. Ruby Byerley and Mr. Foster Park. Beatrioe Claycomb, another member of our class, was crowned Basketball Queen when we were seniors. The eeremonies were conducted by Miss Byerley with the help of the school band and the basketball boys . The Notlennao staff was ohosen t publish the year book. It consisted of Editor-in-chief, Ralph Leitner; Copyreader, Luoille Spenoer; Typists, Juanita Harding and Lorna Sixx; Photo Editors, Janet Forsaith and Boa Claycomb; Advertising Editor, Joan Clemens; and Circulation Editor, Jesse Glenn. Our olass colors for our high schooldays were green and white. Pink and white carnations were our olass flowers. Our moto was Be square and be wise. Historian ii
