FIRST urns SENIOR CLASS OF 1949 Ralph Leitner, known to his friends as Buddy, was elected by the thirty-five seniors to lead the class through the most important year of their high school career. If we are to believe that participation in athletics is good training for leadership, Ralph was a good choice for president, as he played left guard on the football team for four years. During his ninth and tenth years. Buddy played basketball. In his junior year the Science and Aviation club claimed much of Ralph s time. Ralph has sung two years in the high school chorus. He enjoys dancing very much. He has done some very good woodwork in the shop classes. We often see him reading a good book, some times a classic, sometimes a current best seller. Buddy is seventeen years old, six feet, two inches, has ’’eyes of blue and blonde hair. After graduation Ralph plans to enlist in the army. Janet Forsaith, vice president of the class of 1949, was born in Shanghai, China, seventeen years ago. When Janet v as about six years old she came to the United States for a year; then she and her family went to the Phillipine Islands to live. In 1941, catching the last boat to carry civilians, the Forsaiths returned to the U.S. After living five years in Indianapolis, Janet loined our class in 1946. Jan, a National Honor Society member, is co-photo editor of the Notlennac. She is a sports writer on the Hi-Life. For two years Janet has been a trombonist in the high school band. Janet played the mother role in the all school play, ”All American Family’’. She is secretary-treasurer of the Thespian Troupe. In her junior year Janet was vice president of the Student Council. She has been a member of the G.A.A. for two years and served as president in her senior year. Jan’s hair is brown and her eyes are actually green. After graduation she hopes to take a teacher training course at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Lucille Spencer, a girl without a nickname, has served as class secretary this year. Keeping a record book was just a little out of Lucille’s line, as her interests lie in the field of the arts. During the four years Lucille was in the band she played the oboe and bell lyre. Lucille likes all kinds of music and has been in the popular orchestra a year. For four years, Lucille has been pianist for the local Klwanis Club. She has sung in the high school chorus two years. Lucille plays piano accompaniment for vocal and instrumental solos. Lucille played the daughter in the all school play, ’’all American Family’’. She is a member of the Thespian Troupe. On the scholastic side, Lucille has been a member of the National Honor Society. She is associate editor of the Hi-Life and Copy reader of the Notlennac staff. Lucille has brown hair, blue eyes, and is five feet, two inches tall. After graduation, Lucille is going to study music. Edward Paulin, called Eddie and Eppie, has kept an eagle eye on our treasury. Eddie played left guard on the varsity football for three years and basketball two years. He has been an active member in the Hi-Y for four years. One year Eppie belonged to the Current Events Club and the Senior Sports Club a year. When you go into a local drug store, you’ll likely see Eddie's cheery smile for he has worked there several years. He is five feet, ten inches, has brown hair and brown eyes. After graduation, Eppie plans to attend University of Kentucky a year and the University of Louisville for a course in pharmacy. Phyllis Loetta May ( Outlaw”) has been writing our history for four years. This year she edited the Hi-Life. For four years Phyllis has played a clarinet in the high school band. She has been a member of the Pepband for tv o years and the Popular Orchestra for one year. Phyllis has a lovely voice—if you can persuade her to sing for you. She has been in the chorus four years. Phyllis shows a lot of executive ability in her two service club jobs--she is a student librarian and works in the principal’s office. Her hair is dark brown and her eyes are blue. She loves cooking—makes her own recipes. Phyllis is a chic dresser and hopes to own a dress shop someday.
