HOMECOMING 87 Homecoming 1988 It all started Friday, October 16, 1987 - 8th period in the high school gym as hundreds of screaming fans came down to cheer on our Red- skins. The enthusiasm started to build as the Lady Redskins shut out Prattsburg with a stunning vic- tory, 3-0. As the evening progressed the bonfire was lit and so were the hearts and spirits of Canis- teo’s fans. They knew that night that something was going to happen to change the course of history in Canisteo football. On October 17th at 1:30 p.m. • it happened. The Canisteo Varsity football team took the field and the crowd was in anticipation of the events yet to come. At half-time the score was 13-7 in favor of Canisteo. The half-time festivities began. The band played as the 1987 Homecoming candidates made their appearance. The 4th attendant was Colleen Speed escorted by Lee Remchuck. The 3rd runner-up was Holly Miller escorted by Abe Carter. The 2nd runner=up was Peggy Kelley escorted by Matt Wilkins. The 1st runner-up was Donna Tingley escorted by Doug Smith. The Queen was Tracy Ryan escorted by Todd Terwilliger. Then came the only moment of saddness as the senior players were honored by friends, faculty, and family. They received flowers as a tribute to their final home game. As the buzzer sounded to end the game the score was 18-7 and the Canisteo Redskins had their first homecoming victory in six years. 7
