1985 DEDICATION: HERE’S TO YOU MR. THOMAS! The 1985 Kanistean Staff proudly dedicates this yearbook to Mr. Richard L. Thomas, devoted teacher and friend to Canisteo students. Mr. Thomas graduated from high school in nearby Hornell, New York and then traveled extensively during a tour of duty in the U S. Navy. Graduating from Alfred University College of Ceramics in 1959, he begin teaching at Chenango Valley High School. He then taught a variety of courses at Port By- ron Central School for several years. Mr. Thomas completed his MFA in 1970 at the Rochester Institute of Technology while still teaching. For the four years following, he taught at Paul Smith College. There he was the Assistant Proffessor of Art and Photography. During this time, he was also the Artist in Resident at Lake Placid School of Music and Art, a tutor for Empire State College and a soccer coach. This is Mr. Thomas’ tenth year at Canisteo. His years of service and dedication will be cherished by the future artists and community leaders he has helped to educate. 2
