Congratulations to the Class of 1977 upon reaching this im- portant milestone in your life—Commencement. Your teach- ers and 1 are proud to have been a part of your lives. I would like to say something about our aspirations for you. Though riches and power are a part of life and deserved by those who earn them and do not abuse them, we have other more basic aspirations for you. We hope that you will have the oppor- tunity to develop your talents—and you all have them—to the fullest extent. At the same time we hope that you will develop a sensitivity to the needs of others—a social con- science. Through this process, you will experience success and failure and profit from both. Best wishes! Robert C. Hammond To the Class of 1977: You will have heard many words of advice in your “growing up” years, and you have doubtlessly found much merit in them. Now there will be a whole array of new experiences, friends, responsibilities—so much to look forward to with pleasure and anticipation. The only advice I would give is to make good memories by choosing carefully the priorities your life will offer and then living it fully and joyfully. James E.
