Seniors Underclassmen Activities Sports Profile . . . we dedicate this book to a person who has stood behind this school for many years, helping to mold its stu- dents into creative young adults. In this world of trouble and crisis, it will take imagination to solve present problems without giving birth to new ones. We believe that this person has helped to increase our potential. Therefore, we, the staff of the 1971 Kanis- tean, arc proud and honored to dedicate this book to Mrs. Louise McCarty. in memory of his dedication to man- kind and his struggle for human justice . . . A friend to all, an enthusiast, a man who was concerned about the welfare of others . . . this was Jeff Crandall. As a worker for the poor and impoverished persons of the ghetto, Jeffrey proved his compas- sion and understanding for those who were less fortunate. He was a “buddy” to the young, and a “companion” to the old. Jeff Crandall devoted his life to a cause that he loved and believed in. We are proud to honor him in this book. 4 administration ... board of education Sitting: Mr. Kilmer, president: Mr. Carrier. Dr. Davidson. Graduating from our school this year is a class of unusual aca- demic excellence. You will face numerous challenges, and you will also have opportunities to serve, and we hope improve our society. Those of us who stay behind at Canisteo Central School will always be interested in your achievements. We wish you the best. James E. Roach District Principal The class of ’71 and 1 have a common bond, we both arrived at Canisteo Central thirteen years ago. It has been a privilege and an honor to have worked with you and for you all these years. Now you are ready to make your mark in the world beyond high school. Many of you will be preparing for your life’s work by further schooling. Many others will be directly entering the world of work and service. Each of you has a mark to attain and the ability to attain it. You are one of our most talented classes and, as stated in the Bible in the par- able of the talents, much is to be expected of you. In a world that really needs a worthy use of talents, you will be a welcome addition. The final judgment of your attaining your potential will be based on your influence on our world. If it is better than you found it because you served in it, no one can expect more. God bless you all and come back often to visit your old school. Richard J. Alderman High School Principal Congratulations to the class of 1971. While passing through the formative years of your education, you have displayed unusual talents in many fields. I greatly enjoyed working with you in my science clas- ses while in a teaching capacity, and regret that my new duties have prevented a close contact during your senior year. Best wishes to each of you as you pass from C.C.S. to new areas of endeavor. Charlie realizes how people were really treating him and is appalled at the lack of human compassion. A mouse named Algernon, forerunner to the experimental op- eration which makes Charlie a genius, regresses and dies. As the curtain falls we see Charlie, a lost soul, already regress- ing, hovering over the grave of Algernon. Those who said it couldn’t be done by a high school group saw an outstanding performance by the 1971 C.C.S. Seniors. This thought was quickly erased as Canisteo defeated York 14 to 6. A heartbreaking 20 to 14 loss to Perry occurred in the last minute of the game. Canisteo lost to Letchworth 20 to 6 on a cold, windy day. A strong LeRoy team defeated us 24 to 6. Can- isteo got back in the win column with a fine 22 to 6 win over Dansville. We added another victory, 45 to 14 over Warsaw, and scored a record 27 points in the third quarter. Without the services of Jon Roe at quarterback, the Redskin offense sputtered and lost the last two games of the season, 37 to 8 to a very fine Geneseo team and 20 to 0 to Caledonia. Front row: S. We sure have been together a long time—right from the very first day when we kind of died a little when Mommy first left us in that horrible dungeon of building blocks and crayons. But after a while it grew on us, and we ve accepted it for thirteen years, you and 1—together. That s a long time. So it just kind of ends. You go your way and I’ll go mine. We’ll just take up where others have left off and try not to make the same mistakes. All we have now is the world, you and I, separate, apart, with but one task—to unite, to bring together the loose ends of existence into one smooth, interwoven pattern. And some day with a little bit of luck and a lot of hope, we just might all be together again—one more time.
