CLASS HISTORY In September of 1945 nearly fifty bewildered graduates of eighth grade assembled in the study hall as members of the class of 1949 Four long years loomed ahead of us until graduation As our first class officers we elected Lois Bettinger, president Lyle Mccaffery, vice president Beverly Weight, secretary, and Dorothy Lee Stewart, treasurer We faithfully executed the duty of each freshman class -maintaining the appearance of the school building That year we also celebrated w1th a slam bang Hallows'en party Through the contribution of each class member, we managed to aid the Senior yearbook with a half page advertisement It seemed no time at all before we put in our appearance as Sophomores with Jim Stanton at the helm and Lyle McCaffery, vice president, Dorothy Lee Stewart, secretary, and Beverly Weight, treasurer, as assistants March of 1947 marked our initial ex perienoe as entertainers with the Soph Hop As our first money making project, we did well earning a profit of S50 Our class teams proved themselves victorious when the boys walked off with the Inter Class Basketball Crown and later, in June the Sophomores were declared the winners of the Inter Class Track Meet We were now beginning our last two years in high school when we chose Lyle McGaffery president, Elwyn Burdick, vice president, Beverly Weight, secretary, and Jim Stanton, treasurer To in crease the amount in our Junior treasury, we tried our sales ability in selling Christmas cards The Christmas season was highlighted by our Junior Prom worked hard to bring the holiday feeling into the gym with Christ mas trees, Santas, and sleighs Class Track competition We said a last farewell to the class of 1948 by entertaining them at the Junior Senior Banquet From all who attended congratulations rolled in for our great job as hosts Much to our amazement we realized in the Fall of 1948 that we were at long last entering upon the last lap of our high school days With nearly two dollars in the treasury we started the year with Jeannette Garman, president, Donna Reynolds, vice president, Barbara Atkins, secretary, and Phyllis Mace,Vreasurer with the aid of Miss Hicks and Mr benner we launched our magazine campa1gn with everyone pulling to net a profit of over 250 Soon after the year began the school lost a valuable friend when Hr Fenner left to assume the prineipalship at Arkport He was especially missed by our class to which he was advisor. At this time we began rehearsals for our play, 'The Bashful Bachelor' which, under the able direction of Miss Hicks, made a hit with all villagers who crmumed the auditorium to see its presentation on December 9 The last month of 1948 also held another big event for the school the beginning of a new school tradition initiated by Mr Neuhauser, our new senior advisor The Holly Hanging Festival made its debut on the 18th of December Movies and dancing were available to all who attended to see the Seniors awarded the red and green Holly Hanging Banner At all sports events no one could miss seeing the Seniors, dol1ng out to hungry people such items as candy gum, potato chips, pop, and hot dogs at a small charge of course I 1 , - , We Again the '49ers edged all other classes out in the Inter- S .
