This year We have had successful events, such as our play, Junior-Senior Banquet, and Junior Dance. We have selected as our flower the Red Rose and as our colors wine and white. Members of our class have taken active part in baseball, track, basketball, and football. We hope we have proved ourselves as outstanding as any Junior class, and will try our best to equal or exceed any other Senior Class of the Canisteo Central School. Page 26

DICKENS We, the Sophomore Class of 1940, who hope to be the Seniors of 1942, have had but a short time to try to exceed the other classes scholastically and socially, but we have been active enough, so that our upper classmen have taken notice of us. We have participated in baseball, basketball, track, and football. The girls have formed a basket- ball team which has been very successful. We are looking forward to our next two years of school which will be more eventful for us and in which we will assume the more dignified duties of Juniors and Seniors. Page 25 1 Effie.. ff...

Young ILGQSS H939 OFFICERS DONALD BEATTIE - - President HAROLD SHINEBARGER Vice President JEAN COTTON - - Secretary JACK MAXFIELD Treasurer A singular distinction of the Class of '39 was their high scholastic standing, which surpassed that of all the other classes graduated from Canisteo. Among their number were several excellent athletes, thespians, debaters, artists, public speakers, musicians, and group leaders. Performances of the Junior and Senior Plays were successful both financially and artistically. Although activities in the social field were somewhat limited by poor facilities and the erection of the new fCentralJ school, there were the usual number of parties, dances, etc. Outstanding among these affairs were the Junior Prom at which Don de Serio's orchestra played, the Senior Ball featuring the music of Andy Grillo's orchestra, and two junior-Senior Banquets, and the trip to Owasco Park.
