While deployed with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean CANISTEO again proved that in the Service Force Atlantic there is no such thing as a single purpose ship. - To commemorate the 87th birthday of the Archbishop of Malta, Monsignor Michael Gonzi, CANISTEO was asked to transport a life-size statue of the revered holy man from Naples, Italy to Valleta, Malta, where it was to be placed with those of past archbishops in the Cathedral Church of Malta. Monsignor Gonzi has been archbishop of Malta since its raising to the status of a metropolitan! archdiocese 25 years ago. Few archbishops have held similar office for this length of time and through such difficult periods of peace and war, Captain George R.
