COMMANDING OFFICER Since 14 March 1980, CANISTEO has been Captain Arthur H. Fredrickson. A native minnesotan, Captain Fredrickson enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve at age eighteen. Upon graduation from Macalester College in 1957, he was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Candidate CROCD Program. After a short tour as Third Division Officer in USS SARATOGA CVA-60, Captain Fredrickson entered flight training and received his Naval Aviator Wings in May 1957. A fighter pilot, he has accumulated more than 4,000 flight hours, in excess of 700 carrier arrested landings and 137 combat sorties. He has served in seven fighter squadrons and has flown the decks of nine aircraft carriers. Following a tour as F- 14 Introduction Officer on the staff of Commander Fighter Wing ONE, Captain Fredrickson served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Fighter Squadron Thirty-Two CVF-25, and F-14 squadron embarked in USS JOHN F. KENNEDY CV-67. Since his initial ship's company tour on SARATOGA, Captain Fredrickson has had two carrier tours. First, on USS FORRESTAL CVA-59 he served as Assistant Air Operations, Strike Operations and Special Assistant to the Executive Officer. More recently C1977-19799, he served on USS AMERICA CV-66 as Air Operations and Executive Officer. Captain Fredrickson is a graduate of Armed Forces Staff College and the Senior Officer Ship's Material Readiness Course CSOSMRCD, Idaho Falls. He holds eight Strike!Flight Medal Awards, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, and various campaignftheater awards. ' Captain Fredrickson is married to the former Agnete Utoft Bollesen of Tyler, Minnesota. They reside in Virginia Beach with their three daughters, Pamela, Kirstin and Sonja. '91

EXECUTIVE OFFICER CDR Richard C. Branum is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1967. A Destroyerman who has served aboard USS LEARY DD-879 as Navigator7MPA, USS FRED T. BERRY DD-859 as Chief Engineer and decommissioning Executive Officer. He is a Plank Owner of USS PAUL FF-1080 on which he served as Chief Engineer and has commanded USS PLEDGE MSO-492. CDR Branum is a 1974 graduate of the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California, he holds an MS Degree in Operations Research7Systems Analysis. He is a 1970 graduate of Surface Warfare Officers School, Department Head Course, Class 29. CDR Branum was recently assigned ashore with the Naval Sea Systems Command as Director for Plant Operations and Maintenance for the Steam Propulsion Plant Improvement Program PMS-30. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of Second Award, Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star in lieu of Second Award, National Defense and Sea Service Ribbons, Viet Nam Service Unit Citation and Campaign Ribbons. CDR Branum is married to the former Ellen Kay Gordon of Washington, DC. They reside in Virginia Beach with their two children Stephanie and John.
