Af communion breakfasf fables fhroughouf our counfry many words of fribufe have been spoken concerning fhe deep-roofed sancfify of Sf. lgnafius, and fhe far reaching successes of his spirifual sons. Jesuif schools from Buffalo fo Baghdad have feafured displays concerning fhe several works of fhe Sociefy of Jesus. The Philippine missionary, fhe Welfare lsland chaplain, fhe Universify of Beiruf professor, fhe Sf. Louis Preparafory School feacher, fhe work of fhese men has been described, all as a fribufe fo fhe holy founder of fhe Sociefy fhaf labors af fhese fasks. As sfudenfs af a Jesuif high school, parf of fhe vasf Jesuif educafional sysfem fhaf spans fhe world, we nafurally join in fhis salufe fo fhe founder of fhe Sociefy of Jesus, and, in a special way, we exfend our congrafulafions fo fhose Jesuifs whom we know besf of all, our feachers here af Canisius. Buf fhis is more fhan a fime of congrafulafion, if is a fime of inspirafion. Joined wifh our admirafion of fhe many works of fhe Sociefy of Jesus is a spirf of emulafion. Our Jesuif feachers have accomplished much in fhe kingdom of Chrisf and fhey have sef a paffern for us fo follow. lf is a paffern of acfive labor in fhe service of Chrisf, acfion di- recfed and sancfified along fhe pafh poinfed ouf by Sainf lgnafius for fhe greafer glory of God. Acfion was indeed fhe aim of lgnafius. The numerous works menfioned above, works inaugurafed by Sf. lgnafius and carried on by fhe Sociefy fo fhis day, fruly affesf fo fhis facf. Buf all fhese works, all fhis acfivify, is merely an effecf. The reason for fhis acfivify, fhe mofiviafing force behind fhis hard labor, we find foo in fhe life of lgnafius. For he was more fhan a man of acfion, he was a man of vision. Whaf fhis vision and inspirafion was we realize from our slighf familiarify wifh fhe Spirifual Exercises. The medifafion on fhe Kingdom of Chrisf when Chrisf is porfrayed as calling us all fo His service was 'fhe vision fhaf musf have driven lgnafius fo labor so lovingly and devofedly in fhe ranks of Chrisf, fhe King. Undoubfedly if was fhis same medifafion proposed by lgnafius, fhaf senf Francis Xavier fo spend himself on fhe heafhen coasfs of lndia and China. And as lgnafius proposed fhis ideal fo Francis Xavier, he proposes fhaf same fhoughf fo us each year in our refreaf. Each year, for fhe pasf four years, lgnafius has porfrayed fhis call of Chrisf, fhe King, fo us: and our refreaf masfers, men of lgnafius, have explained fo us whaf is necessary fo answer fhis challenge during our school days here af Canisius.
