A verb-form contest for all the Freshman classes serves to improve your grasp on the elusive forms of laudo, mitto and so on. You sit low in your chair hoping that your name will not he called. Somehow or other, though, the judges manage to single you out to let others profit by your mistakes. Well anyway, you did not want the holiday that went to the winners. It would have meant work- ing twice as hard the next day. 25

December: The preparations for Christmas begin early and you have a daily reminder of the Advent season in the sodality mite box drive when you make your first Christmas gifts. The warm glow of the season begins to pervade the school as the teachers take time out to make comments on the coming sca- son or to bring in appropriate Christmas readings for the class. February: Well you survived the first term exams so you finally begin to feel at home and you sense that you belong at Canisius. Along with that feeling goes a greater appreciation for the teachers with whom you have been working since September. You realize that all the faculty members, whatever their physical appearance or teaching methods or courses, are sincerely interested in you.
