freshmen asketball .l McGroder J McMullen, C. Strelzyk, G. Britz, R. Thrunk E Bartkowski. Speed and clever ball handling were the two features that best characterized Bob MacKinnon's Baby Griffs. Off to a slow start in early season, the frosh cagers quickly gained momentum and ended the season with an impressive I4-2 record. The season was highlighted by the final game, as the frosh nipped the Niagara Eaglets by the slender margin of 2 points. Bob Thrunk and Greg Britz played brilliantly in this game, as they did throughout the whole season. Varsity coach Joe Curran can look forward to another fine season with the addition of many fine ballplayers from the frosh squad. 90 Two for Sfrelzyk

Canisius 81 Yale 60 Canisius 70 Georgia Tech 56 Canisius 59 St. Bonaventure 56 Basketball Mambo It was nothing, Father 89 The Golden Griftins edged St. Bonaventure, 59-56, to capture the President's Cup, emblematic of Canisius' superiority in the Queen City Invitational Tournament. Canisius walloped Yale 81-60, in the first 'ili found and beat Georgia Tech, 70-56, to advance into the championship round against the Brown Indians. St. Bonaventure had 'disposed of Columbia and George- town to gain the final berth. John McCarthy swished in 27 points and played an outstanding Floor game to pace Joe Curran's Grittins. His performance in the entire tourney earned him the Outstanding Player of the Tournament Award, the A. G. Spaulding Trophy. ,M

After a lapse of a few years, tennis was returned to the status of a varsity sport. What coach Joe Curran's charges lacked in experience was adequately com- pensated for by enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. ln six matches the Griffins had a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. Both wins were over their arch rivals from Niagara, while the netters suffered two defeats at the hands of the University of Buffalo and one each to McMasters and Buffalo State Teachers. 91
