GTviliiiliFiFilN Functioning as both news reporter and chronicler of Canisius achievement, the Griffin occupies a prominent place in campus lite. Through the gathering and reporting of college affairs, original thinking and iournalistic technique is developed in the student reporter. The objectives of the Griffin are manifold: the support of general college functions, the publicizing of extra-curricular activities, and the medium through which student opinion can be expressed. Perhaps the most constructive contribution of the Gritifin is the promotion of clear thinking through a vigorous editorial policy. The accomplishment of these objectives is carried out by the various departments in the organization. There are five dis- tinct staffs, as well as a business manager and a staft photog- rapher. The Editor-in-Chief is directly responsible tor this bi- weekly production, and the editors of news, sports, circulation and make-up work under his supervision. The editorial staff, working under the Editor, provides acute comments on both the serious and humorous aspects of college life. The editorial staFF is changed at mid-year to ensure that the heritage of high quality is carried on from year to year. lt is this high quality that gives every issue of the Gritftin its truly Canisius flavor. gm ,. ..' .,g:C tg. 66

Bob Maraio, Dom Verso, and Carl Roesch. Early in September a group of bewildered Seniors, who were now yearbook editors, were advised by Father Fitzsimons, a veteran of yearbooks, to live with the book, and both you and it will grow. And for six months the Stal? did iust that, the ideas came slowly, molding them into the pages was even more diffi- cult, buteventually The 1955 Azuwur came into being from a maze of layouts, art work, copy and photographs. Unfamiliar words and ideas-half tones, mock dummies, and the panacea, salt-soon became part of their esoteric little world. And, when the book was completed and put to press, they knew what itiwas to live and grow. The Staff owes much gratitude to their moderator, Mr. Sieller, who not only gave them valuable assistance on the yearbook, especially the literary end, but also inspired them in their Freshmen year to become real students by his great gift of being a true professor and man.
