The purpose of the Society is both to honor outstanding Canisians and to promote the interests of the College. The first appearance of a Canisius honor society was in i925 under the name of the Coffin Club. This organization was continued until World War ll, when, like many other activities, it was allowed to lapse. ln l952 the Society was resumed with the new name of DiGamma which more symbol- ically represents the ideal of the Golden Griffin. There is both an alumni and student chapter in the organization. Bill Rogan is the Student Master head- ing the undergraduate division. Annual stag. 4

Anyone interested in the more complicated and challenging branches of higher mathematics can participate in the Club's program. This is usually highlighted by several guest lecturers, speaking on specialized applications of mathematics. Members also prepare their own papers which are read, discussed and evaluated at the meetings. These concern both theoretical and applied problems in mathematics. ,sis ill' , N ' N Q t i Qi.
