The Academia directs this impulse into worthwhile channels. The members sharpen and cultivate their ability to speak persua- sively by participating in numerous intercollegiate debates. The Academians were for the second consecutive year vic- torious over ten local colleges to gain the Western New York Debate Championship. The highlight of the year was the team's trip to Washington to compete in the Georgetown and N.F.C.C.S. tournaments. In addition to the prestige brought to the College by its out- standing record of 30 wins and lO losses, the Academia has .4 l greatly increased the social lite on the campus with its popular dances held in the Student Lounge. l The Campion Society fulfills much the same purpose for the senior debating society as a freshmen athletic team does for its varsity. Functioning primarily as a training team for experi- ence in the art of eHiective debating, the freshman organi- zation concentrates on essentials. The Society participates in a number of intercollegiate debates with freshmen groups from other local colleges.
