Father Joseph T. Clark, S.J. Director of Student Personnel Services FAL09 l Father John B. Morris, S.J. Dean of Faculties gl U S C N O '3' 9 1 rf' U F2 21 Modern life in its complexities has placed unprecedented responsibility on American institutions of higher learning, so- ciety seeks from them the knowledge for a better future and the formation of men to secure it. Canisius, under the direc- tion of the Administration, is well endowed to undertake its share of this challenge. lt proclaims and stresses the philos- ophy on which America was founded, that is, man's natural right to' liberty and happiness and dignity in the eternal order of things. Scholastic philosophy realized early the grave threat to these principles from the materialistic doc- trine of Communism. A unit in the world Jesuit educational system, the peda- gogy of Canisius has been tested over four centuries. This theory based on the Ratio Stucliorum is fundamentally the same as when proclaimed in l599, but supplemented and adapted' to the changing conditions of the present age. Combined with the inspiration and knowledge of the faculty, this plan of studies forms students who may share in the re- sponsibility of the future. Thus Canisius College feels confident in the possession of time tested principles and knowledge and humble in its great obligation to God, the student, and the nation.
