81644 0464-blly Remember yyhen we yyere tremblrng and anuous Fresh men? That first day rn hrgh school was looked forward to tor a long trme I thrnk that first day was the only day out of the year when wc were all present There were 34 of us ten ur acyrsor yyas Doc Flannrgan who has srrrce ohtarned hrs PhD degree at Cornell The event whrch vye yyrll remember longest was our rnrtratron That occurred rn front of the whole school rn an assembly called for that purpose We were qurte a Ill s yyhen we got through vyhat wrth hpstrck odd clothrr1g and havrng to bow to every Sophomore Our Frosh officers were Presrdent, Donald Mrnnrnff Yrce Presrdent, Marcra Vyard Secretary Arthur Andrews, Treasurer, Edgar Storm We sold scaryes cards, and pens ta bargarn at a drllar precej, finrshrng the year wrth oyer a hundred dollars a record as far as preyrous Frosh funds were concerned As Sophomores, we garned a few members, makrng a total of 3, for that vear Our class adyrsor was Mr S agrrrtto a very good math teacher We had our rnrtratron program all mapped out, when we were told that there would be no frrr ther hazrng of Frosh X sad thrng rrrdeed At the Halloween Party we were yery darrng gorng so far as to haye a gamblrng concessron Vie drrped the cus tomers out of a good deal of money wrth our penny prtchrng booth Our more memorable money makrng ventures were the Athletrc Banquet and the boon of the prcture sales vshrch the Junrors refused Our officers were Presrdent, Arthur Andrews, Vrce Presrdent, Dona Lathrop Secretary, Edgar Storm, Treasurer, Marre Hurd As junrors we had a class of 31 members Our adyrsor was Mr Cook the Ag teacher That was the year we got our class rrngs How proud we were of them' VVe paraded through the halls wrth a rrng on one hand and a polrshrng cloth rn the other But the noyelty wore off and we soon had the same dull lrstless looks on our faces agarn Our ofhcers were Presrdent Robert Nrcholson Vrce Presrdent Dmnald Mannrng Secretary Dona Lathrop Treas urer Marcra VVard Nye sold refreshments at basketball games had the rndry dual prtture conc ssron agarn, had a serres of moyres, and .1 May Day dance comp ete wrth a may Dole Xt last, were senrors wrth .1 class of 27 members VI McManus, scrence teacher rs our adyrsor Our officers are our hard workrng Presrdent, Larry Manzer, mugwump Vice Presrdent, Loby Houck, cute Secretary Martha Netupskr and tt tter headed Treasurer, Betty Toft 'lhrs rs the year when we take that wonderful trrp to XVashrnvton, D C whrch weye dreamed of for so long VVc ye done our best thrs year to rarse the money whrch we need fo thrs trrp We ve sold magazrnes and statronery and had all sorts of actrvrtr s, rncludrng our play, a one rrng crrcus, donkey basketball game, and a talent show wonderful people who have helped us through our hrgh school years That credrt goes to our teachers, prrncrpals parents, people who liave supported our money makrng events, and to our credrtors, the busrnessmen of Candor Specral credrt goes to Mrs Stronf, who rs leavrng the teachrng professron thrs year She wrll always be remembered by her puprls, and especrally by her annual staff of thrs year Many thanks, Mrs Strong Hoprng that the underclassmen have as good a trme as we have had and brddrng you all goodbye, we remarn, THE CLASS OF 1953 sum -11.,..,us GERM WARFARE Durrng these modern trmes rn whrch we lrye we are thrnkrng of ways for better lryrng and wavs rn whrch we can relax ourselves Unfortunately, men are also studyrng ways to krll off one another wrthout possrbly hurtrng themselves Une of the most dreadful ways thought up rs germ warfare It has been proven that man has a tougher trme runnmg away from germs than from hrs fellow man Germs are a form of lrfe whrch we can nerther see nor hear They can contact us wrthout our knowrng about rt, but worst of all they prck no frrends There rs now an 1nternat1on'1l agreement tl-at there wrll be no germ warfare, but, I dont thrnk that men wrll obey thrs code rf therr only chance of suryrval depends on usrng germs thrnk the best way to preyent germ warfare as well as many other calamrtres rs through educatron lf people rn the world were taught the effects of thrs dreaded warfare whrch would possrbly wrpe off all lrfe on earth there would be no power under any crrcumstances wrllrng to use germ warfare My oprnron rs Illtlt rf people rn the world would umte to combat germs rrrstead of multrply them thrs would he a better world rn whrch to lrye e VVrnnrck SCHOOL The most fascrnatrng thrng to me about school rs that rt goes from bad to good rnstead of bad to worse VVhen we the Senrors of Candor started out rn the first grade rt was fun, but we were all the trme just as happy to stay home It wasnt really bad to go to school but rt was the popular thrng that rf you could stay out of school for any reason rt was tl1e proper thrng to do But as we progressed from grade to grade rt became more fun to come to school than to stay home because stayrng home a day meant twrce as much work the next day to make up for what had been mrssed In the lower grades we learned how to add two and two and come out wrth four Nlow they are teachrng us how to get thrrd root of 1 to the nth power It has been fun gorng to school and I thrnk I am gorng to mrss rt after the end of thrs vear Schoolrng rs one of the most rmportant parts of our lrves and rs very essentral rn teachrng us how to lrve rn tuture years We can get along wrth each other farrly well llld we have all had a happy trme On the other hand mavbe we haye been havrng too good .1 trme and not learrrrrrg enough but I thrnk we have all done farrly well invway rt rs Z1 great place, our school D Mannrng HUGH T.
