Varsity Members: Row 1: Shawna Eilers, Paula Olson. Row 2: Wendy Schalek, Connie Verhelst, Jill Larson. Michelle Denelsbeck, Susan Bies. Row 3: Coach Cindy Bredeson, Kirstie Thelen, Amy Adkins, Tammy Berckes, Rhonda Gentz, Janelle Jacobson. The 1987-88 Volleyball season started on August 17, at 8:00 a.m. We had 8 days of morning practice with a few days of having an afternoon practice, too. Needless to say, we were all ready for our matches to start and continuous practice to stop! But, Coach Cindy Bredeson did try to make practice fun by having us play games — whoever would get 3 serves first would get to choose the next drill. With 48 girls out in grades 9-12, there were four separate teams formed so everyone could get some playing time. Our first match was at Clarkfield. The season went on, with long bus trips to Ortonville and Wheaton, since we changed conferences again! We ended the season with a record of 6-9 and took 4th place in the conference Shawna Eilers was selected to the all-conference team and Tammy Berckes and Shawna Eilers were both named to the Marshall Independent All-Area team. We were seated in the district and played Russell-Tyler- Ruthton in the first round. We lost 3 games to Ortonville.
