HOMECOMING As Seniors, our last year of high school was highlighted with fun and memorable events special to us as they drew our class together. Homecoming was definitely one of those major events that brought much excitement to, and made last- ing memories of, our senior year. Ex- citement and anxiety consumed the halls and classrooms of school im- mediately in the fall since we seniors voted for the seven king and queen candidates during the first week of school. After a lot of organization and work was done by many enthusiastic people, coronation night was a sparkling success. A large crowd of people, our class among them, were proud to see all the queen candidates looking so beauti- ful, each accompanied by a dashingly handsome king hopeful. Host Paul Hansen and hostess Janelle Jacob- son made a tough job seem easy as they kept the air in the gym light and cheerful. Senior singers Marcus “V4 Suit Padilla and Jill Lisa-Lisa Weber brought the audience to life with the musical entertainment they provided.Tamy Berckes politely introduced the four foreign exchange students: Xavi Ramos, Meri Roca Codina, Petra Koning and Thierry Bouillard to everyone. (No one can assume how many special memories our senior class will have of those four special people who shared so much with us.) Everyone's curiosity was satisfied as Chad Merritt and Wendy Schalek were crowned Canby’s 1987-88 Homecoming King and Queen. The dark gym was illuminated with the flashes of approving friends' and families' cameras. Various organization rep- resentatives gladly presented their gifts to a very elated king and queen. The suspense was over but the fun of Homecoming was just beginning. There was dress-up week which many of us seniors participated in. We found school work hard to take seriously as we came to school dressed as beach bums. With Shawna Eilers' flippers flopping, who could concentrate on anything? Mrs. Lang, being the good example she is, showed us all how to look and act like a REAL nerd. Amy Nordseth and Rhonda Gentz had the act perfected by the end of the day. On Combat Day, Jim-Bob Hurt showed us all how easily he could be camouflaged into a bush. Many people participat- ed in Homecoming festivities and everyone's enthusiasm shone at the football game at the end of the week. Many supportive fans cheered the Lancer football players as they played a good game. After the game, the grand finale, the Homecoming dance, was held at the high school. Homecoming was indeed a fun time that drew us seniors together as a class. It was a special time because we all took part in making what we have left — our memories. —Jill Weber left, Jill Weber below, The Four Suits Kelly Jeremiason, Mike Fairchild, Xavi Ramos, Marcus Padilla bottom, pianists Laura Stone, Holly Maas MC's Paul Hansen, Janelle Jacobson

VARSITY 87-88 With two new coaches, Jeff Lebsock and Steve Bergeson, the Lancers couldn't go wrong this season. The coaches, with help from Coach Kevin Hansen, and the players were enthused about the new season. In the first game of the season against Pipestone, things weren't going too well in the first half for the Lancers but, with the help of a pep talk from Coach Lebsock, things began to turn around. Even though we did not win the game, we scored 26 points in the 2nd half for a good showing. The next game was against Ortonville. and the team was even more excited and confident about a win. The game was very close, as were many but, not unlike the rest of the season, the Lancers came up short. To end the season 2-6, the two games the Lancers won were against Appleton and Madison and they were explosive and entertaining. In the Homecoming game of the season, we sparred against the reigning State Class C champions. We played eye to eye, face mask to face mask, and the first half went well for the Lancers but we couldn't keep the momentum going in the second half as Minneota came up victorious. Two of the year's great highlights were that Brad Johnson, with 6 interceptions and Rusty Kockelman. with mountainous amounts of bone- crushing tackles, made all-confer- ence for the Lancers. We had great support this year, for which we are very greatful. We'd like to extend a personal thanks to Coaches Jeff Lebsock and Steve Bergeson for a job superiorly done; we wish we would have another year of hard, but fun. work with them. We wish them Row 1: Paul Hansen, John Rogers, Corey Thompson, Brett Buller, David Johnson, John Houge, Todd Gunderson, Shannon Denelsbeck and David Jeremiason. Row 2: Coach Lebsock, Matt Maynard, Mike Frank, Jerry Berckes, Mike Fairchild, Brad Johnson, Chris Fairchild, Kelly all the best of luck in the 1988-B9 season. —Marcus Padilla and Randy Hennen Hansen, Chad Moeller, Rusty Kockelman, Jeff Padilla, Mike Kontz. Row 3: Coach Bergeson, Coach Hansen, Corey Stoks, Brian Beutler, Craig Jelen, Scott Larson, John Drietz, Jeff Wilke, Scott Oellien, Todd Erp, Marcus Padilla, Corey Nelson, Mike Cleveland and Wade Felton. flbb G0NFERENGE RUSTY KOCKELMAN BRAD JOHNSON
