It is quite a big tournament but we had four winners. Our next meet was at Luverne with five winners. Pipestone was our next stop. We all seem to like their school and we had a lot of fun, especially with four winners! During our state wrestling tournament a few students went to Montevideo for a small meet. We cleaned them out with seven winners. We were supposed to go to Fulda for our final showdown but we got snowed in. The most fun we had was when we had districts in our own little town of Canby. We received sweatshirts from Porter Town and Country so we proudly wore them that day. We ended up with nine winners; three that would advance to regions. Our coach was Lavonne Winters with Audrey Busse as assistant coach. Dave Dybsetter helped us quite a bit too. From the bottom of our hearts we thank them all. Some fond memories from our escapades were singing our hearts out on the way there and back; hurrying to get ready at 6:45 to be on the bus by 7:00 or 7:15; cramming down food at Hardees or on the bus; the long and short bus rides; and trying to find something to do while we wait for results. Martha Leppke, a storytelling member, happened to advance as second alternate in the state. We are all proud of her!

All School Play — Children of a Lesser God Our Cast: Row 1: Susan Bies and Marcus Padilla as our entertainment. Row 2: Lisa Antony, Lois Regnier, Kerri Gingles, and Holly Maas were our back stage women who helped us out quite a few times. Row 3: Tricia Warwick also assisted in helping. Jon Houtman was our lead man as James Leeds and Denise Hanson was our caring mother Mrs. Norman. Row 4: Beret Fluttum was a deaf student, one who could talk, her name was Lydia: Laurie Christie was a lawyer who didn't know much about the deaf world, she was named Miss Edna Klein: Valerie Goodmanson was our deaf lead woman, Sarah Norman, who later became Sarah Norman Leeds and Brian Schmidt was Mr. Franklin, an administrator who used deaf people as a product of his business. Mrs. Lavonne Winters, alias Frau, led this play, she worked very hard at it and we thank her.
