We. the Seniors would like to dedicate this to each group of Seniors that has graduated from Canby High. This school has been in existance for 100 years from 1887 to 1987. So we are honored to be graduating from this school during the hundredth year. Through the years of being a class, we have learned to respect each other for who we really are. We've been through the best of times together and we are very proud to say that we are from the class of 1987. Let the good times roll! The hot spots to go on the weekends were Lake Benton, Gary and Ivanhoe. Sometimes there sure wasn't much action but we definite- ly made sure there was when we arrived. Of course there were the trends that went in and out; for example: mini skirts, faded blue jeans jackets, faded jeans, jeans with holes, bows for the hair, loafers, high tops, safe- ty pin the jeans, banana clips and mowhawks. The top 5 songs that were sur- veyed among the seniors were 1. LIVIN' ON A PRAYER-Bon Jovi 2. I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS TO- NIGHT- Cutting Crew 3. NOTHINGS GONNA STOP US NOW- Star Ship 4. MEET ME HALF WAY- Kenny Loggins and 5. LEAN ON ME- Club Nevoa. 1987 was a year of change. We had teachers cut before school started so our classes became larger with 30 to 35 kids in one room. The teachers were switched to teach different classes. We got a new principle; Mr. Ailts. And our lockers in the hall had no locks and we had no homeroom. The class periods were exactly 50 minutes long and school dismissed at 3:06, not 3:30. On the week of May 29th some strange things occured. We had a real tornado touch down between Canby and Porter. Our school rushed down to the cafeteria and band room to sit in safety for a half hour. The tornado did pass. And after 13 years of riding a bus, one of our buses crashed into a car. Yes, 1987 was one happening year. Kama Sillerud reflects formal and informal fashions. The Lancer team began prac- tices at 8:00 a.m. each morning to prepare for the season ahead of them. This year’s team was quite young. Alex Johnson was the only senior. Even though the team was young there was a lot of talent and ability on both the boy’s and girl’s squads. The practices are hard, including running four to five miles daily and completing weight training exer- cises. During the preseason workout runners also rode twelve miles on bicycles on alternating days. The team’s first meet was in Mor- ris. The boy’s varsity team placed second, beaten by five point lead with Milbank. The Cross-Country boys had an optimistic start. The other meets proved that the Lancers would do well this season. In the Marshall meet Jelen placed fourth for boy’s varsity and Junior varsity boys placed second. The boys again placed second at the Benson Invitational. At our own invi- tational the boys tied Milbank for first. In the SSC run Jelen finished second for boys and the team placed second behind Slayton. The girls varsity team improved all season. Ali Felton captured first place in the SSC meet, and placed quite well in all the other meets. All the girls did very well all season, im- proving all season long. The Jr. High took first place .in both the Ortonville and Montivedio races. Travis Duis took first in both these meets. Says Coach Bredeson, “For their age and lack of experience, the did very well all season. The regional competition was hot. A total of ten seconds separated varsity Ali Felton and Chris Jelen from competing in State. But they will both have chances next year. Coach Bredeson was very pleased with the efforts and accom- plishments of his runners all season. 54 The 1986-87 Varsity Cross Country team were front row, left to right: Mark Nelson.
