One day at a time- this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. The Clevelands were Thomas’s American family for the year. Thomas Hahn Exchange Student From Germany Dear Students, Dear Teachers, and Class of ’83, My one-year stay in the U.S. is almost over now. It has been a great success, and I would like to report on my stay. I left Germany the day I got out of school and arrived in Minneapolis on June 24 after stops in Luxemburg, Iceland, and Chicago. I spent the summer baling, picking rocks and sightseeing Minnesota with my guest parents, Jim and Cynthia Cleveland. After school started, I especially enjoyed the football season though the weather was not the best. Besides duck hunting, I went antelope hunting in October and deer hunting in November in northwestern South Dakota. I also went to a Gophers football game in the Metrodome. They lost but it was a lot of fun. In winter I went out for basketball and watched the Canby Wrestling team at state. This spring 1 went out for baseball. On May 13 I went opening fishing at Ottertail Lake. It was pretty cold, and it started snowing big flakes the second day. We caught quite a few fish, though. Graduation was on May 27, pretty wild and a lot of fun. On June 3 I went on a trip with other exchange students to see the western part of the U.S. I came back June 21 and stayed another three weeks until I returned home on July 11. This has been the shortest year of my life and I wish I could stay here longer with my new friends. Of course, I am going to miss football and baseball. I really got to like these sports! I really got to know Americans better than any tourist could have. I learned a lot of things I will appreciate in the coming years. I thank every one of you so much who made this year such a great experience and so much fun. I plan on coming back to Canby to visit all of you. I would also appreciate it if you would visit me in Germany if you ever have the opportunity to visit my country. Good luck the next years for all sports activities. Thank you so much again for making this year such a fun experience. Best wishes to all of you!
