THE DREAMS AHEAD What would we do in this world of ours Were it not for the dreams ahead? For thorns are mixed with the blooming flowers No matter which path we tread. And each of us has his golden goal, Stretching far into the years; And ever he climbs with a hopeful soul. With alternate smiles and tears. That dream ahead is what holds him up Through the storms of a ceaseless fight; When his lips are pressed to the wormwood’s cup And clouds shut out the light. To some it’s a dream of high estate; To some it’s a dream of wealth; To some it’s a dream of a truce with Fate In a constant search for health. To some it’s a dream of home and wife; To some it’s a crown above; The dreams ahead are what make each life- The dreams-and faith-and love! SENIORS Ninnie is pictured here with the Ben Madsen family with whom she lived when she first arrived in Canby. She also lived with the Rev. Eldon Thurow family, the Roger Gonnerman family, and the Dr. Ted Nelson family during the year that she spent with us. Pictured above are Irene and Ben Madsen with Sonja, Ninni, and Debbie. NINNI CARENBACK - SWEDISH EXCHANGE STUDENT Dear Friends, Before 1 came over here I didn't know anything about Canby and the people. When I left Sweden I was curious about America and Canby. I was kind of tired of my home town and ready to do something new and exciting. When I came from the airport at Sioux Falls, I thought Minnesota seemed to be flat and boring. (I found out later that the forests were in northern Minnesota and the mountains in different parts of the U. S.) I really like it here now. In many ways Sweden and America are alike. I was able to ski here in the winter, which I love to do in Sweden. The weather is about the same, but you have a little bit hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. My stay here has helped me many ways; my English has improved, and 1 am more able to talk with people and make new friends. Everyone has helped me a lot. I was never given time to be homesick. Everyday brought me new experiences. I have learned and done so many new things. I have found out about the culture of America, and I enjoy cooking American food, especially the sweets. Running in cross country was fun and a lot of work. There were many activities in school I never will forget, like being a homecoming candidate. Thank you for electing me to that. Dress up days and all the games were fun. The helpful and patient teachers and all the friendly students made my year fun and exciting. This year has gone very fast; I can’t believe that it is time to go back to Sweden now. I wish I could stay a little bit longer, but it will be fun to meet my family and friends in Sweden again. I will be sad to leave all my friends and my four families. I would like to thank the Madsens, the Thurows, the Gonnermans, and the Nelsons for giving me a home here. I will never forget my stay here in Canby and all the nice people I knew. I will come and visit one day, hopefully soon. Love, Ninni Carenback Villa Sonderburg 59300 Vastervik Sweden Ninni was a good sport and dressed up every day during Homecoming Week. She was also a Queen Candidate for Homecoming. Ninni participated in Cross Country last fall. Ninni enjoyed American food, especially peanut but- ter.
