Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1981 volume:

If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs, and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting, too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good nor talk too wise; If you can dream and not make dreams your master, If you can think, and not make thoughts your aim, If you can meet with triumph and disaster, And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and guild ’em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings, And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings, And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, and so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the will which says to them: “Hold on!” If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings — nor lose the common touch. If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run. Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And — which is more — you’ll be a Man, my Son! Rudyard Kipling We wish to dedicate the 1981 LAicer Yearbook to Bruce Wornson. Mr. Wornson i an English and speech teacher, drama and speech ach, and our year- book advisor. He has been teach lg at Canby High School for the past seven years. In those years he has been a friend and a model figure fo all who have come into contact with him. This yearb ok could not have been possible without him, and t iis is just a small token of our appreciation to you, dr. Wornson. The time passes so quickly and life changes so rapidly that it’s nice to know our memories will be with us always. I hope you enjoy the annual as much as I enjoyed working on it. I’d especially like to thank Chuck Lindemann for his excellent work and Mr. Wornson for all the hours he spent typing. Thanks also to Jackie, Judy, and Verlene. Without their encouragement the annual would not have been possible. Best of luck to all of you, and I hope you will find happiness in what- ever you do. I hope this yearbook will capture some memories of yours and help you to remem- ber the year of 1980-81. Julie Junior editors Beanie Jacobson and Judy Weber. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out. I love you for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart and passing over all the foolish and frivolous and weak things that you can’t help dimly seeing there, and for drawing out into the light all the beautiful radiant belongings that no one else had looked quite far enough to find. I love you for ignoring the possibilities of the fool and weakling in me, and for laying firm hold on the possibilities of the good in me. I love you for closing your ears to the discords in me, and for adding to the music in me by worshipful listening. I love you because you are helping me to make of the timber of my life not a tavern, but a temple, and of the words of my every day not a reproach, but a song. I love you because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me happy. You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign. You have done it first by being yourself. After all, perhaps this is what being a friend means.
